i've had a rough time recently with anxiety issues that have kept me out of college, and i've really not been a particularly happy bunny (reinforced by the loss of Tiny on wednesday). my big sister's friend rescues animals sometimes, and she recently had 6 mice. my mice have all but one passed away due to old age, so my sister asked me if i'd like to adopt some. i have room for three, as i had four before, and now Rollo is all lonely. we got a phone call on wednesday, and the woman that had them was having a bit of a hard time. someone had sexed the mice for her, but she'd gone to clean the cage ready for us to collect the meeces (which we did yesterday), and she found some pinkies. one of the little girls had apparently retracted his :x, and been mistaken. his name had been Mokona, but due to him having sired three litters with a possible three more, he has been aptly renamed 'Casanova'. Casanova has come to live with me, and will be neutered after christmas to live with the girlies.

a few hours after we got home, 'Hitomi' gave birth to a litter of eight. i now have 12 mice, and am now a proud grandma. 'Chika' is possibly pregnant, so we may also have more on the way. an unexpected surprise, but one that i'm quite excited about. they're such tiny little alien like critters x)

Casanova was a clever little mouse - I bet he's cursing being found out!

I think mice are adorable and have wonderful little personalities. I have never had any baby mice though, we only had baby hamsters here. Is there any possible chance of a picture when they are a bit older and you wouldn't upset the Mum? Baby hamsters were amazingly cute, I bet baby mice will be the same once they're trundling about.

i think as soon as i'm allowed, i'll be snapping away. they're the size of my thumb nail :<> my sister had a quick check and at the minute, we think there are four boys and four girls, and we'll just be checking daily to make sure they're feeding etc. i've got a breeder mouse at the minute (Rollo), and she's a lovely mouse, so i can't wait to see how these little ones turn out. they're not from a breeder or anything, obviously, but i want to see if we can raise them to be friendly little meeces. at the minute, they look like this:

Awww congratulations they are gorgeous x)! I've always wanted mice, but i've never too sure on how to take care of them....silly question but can you recommend any books or websites on mouse care? And what kind of housing do you keep them in? :) Hope the little one's settle in well, can't wait to see more pictures :)

Aaah, so cute! At work we had one male who had Casanova's idea - one male in a tank of about 15 females = far too many mice! We finally located him but we have about 100 mice at the moment, and no idea what to do with them! We can't keep them all but nobody wants them. If I wasn't at uni, I'd have a few :(

Awwwww Nicquita they are gorgeous and i am so happy for you, cant wait to see more pics of the little uns.

Hope you are ok lovely xxxxxx x>>

i can't recommend any books, as i've never read one. my sister breeds fancy rats and is on a zoology course, so she's essentially a walking care sheet. the four mice were going to go into the cage i used for my four before. i have a 3tier Imac Fantasy cage currently housing two mice, though it's a good enough size for a few more. expansion packs can be bought for those, too :)

I didn't thinkk you could have mice neutered because they are so tiny?

We had mice for a while and they were very entertaining but the smell was too much for us!

i was worried about neutering, but the vet is very good, and Fijit was perfectly fine within days, oddly enough

my sister has a better photo, but this is from my phone and was taken during our attempt at sexing.

these are three of the suspected boys. we now have a suspected 5 girls and 5 boys. which is brilliant, as it wasn't until we were sexing them that we realised there were two more than last time. they all look roughly the same size, so the two newborns may have been from the other mom and been the only ones in the litter.

i'll post my sister's photo as soon as she's sent it to me. they're so cute and tiny x)

Thank you for posting the pictures. The are absolutely gorgeous! Very very similar to Esma and Gaspode's litters - dwarf winter white hamsters.

We never had much of a problem with smell with mice - until the time we fed them broccolli! We did keep them on wood based cat litter which has an anti pong chemical in it though.

aww! Casanova and Hitomi are very lovely! I always wanted mice since I was little x)

Although with two cats it's probably for the best that Simon put his foot down rolleyes

i can't wait to see how the little ones turn out... i don't know what will happen with them yet, i've only had four mice before, i don't know how much room i can offer to the babies. their genders are pretty important, so i hope we'll be able to properly sex them soon. as it stands, i think we'll probably be looking for a few homes :(
