It was a lovely sunny day yesterday so we sat out in the garden with the piggies in their run grazing.

But then we had an unexpected visitor turn up:

She was very interested in the Piggies, but they didn't want to know. They retreated to their bedroom and snubbed her overtures of friendship.

So she stopped by with me for a drink

And went and joined her friend to hopefully go back where she came from

Piggies were unamused and refused to come out for a good half hour after she'd gone!

My Llewelyn grew up in a run with chickens and guinea pigs before he was rescued, and he still makes a dash for safety if they cluck on tv!

Gorgeous chickens and pics, btw!

That is one big hen!

Do you have any idea where they came from?! :(|)

Well I know one of our neighbours keeps chickens, but I'd kind of assumed he'd have them enclosed in some way. Obviously not. And it now explains how the copious amounts of what I now believe to be chicken crap have appeared on my lawn in the last 2 weeks, and who scratched all the compost out of my flowerbed and onto the grass grrrr

Still, hen was cute and very friendly. Piggies were sure she was a predator though!

Oddly - mine have become quite frindly with my lonely 6 week old duckling - their "outside time" is in an old broody ark while i build their permanent run, which is slap bang next to the ducklings one!

Mind you when the chooks get out, guineas AND duckling head back into their respective houses!

Tony

It looks like Alektorophobia, ( yes, I looked up Fear of Chickens on Wikipedia), is a common thing with piggies. I guess an evolutionary fear of big birds is a useful thing when you're small, furry and low-slung.

Hens and cockerels will eat mice if they can catch them i am not surprised your piggies hid!

First of all, how lush is your garden! Id die for a garden like that, my poor girls have to put up with a sparse, small box LOL! Mind you, its rented, enough said :))

She looks like a lovely friendly hen, I can imagine she looked pretty scary though to your little piggies. I bet they were sitting inside their enclosed bit saying to each other "is it gone yet, whos going to check first?" hehe :(|)

Aww nice story. I love their outside home! ;) Everyone in the UK seems to have a great view, nice green healthy grass, beautiful clouds, sun that doesnt seem to be too hot, just...pretty. :( We dont have that here. 8....

It's not like that all the time honest! We're on the border with Wales here and we're just about to enter the 6 months of the year when it pees it down constantly!

That's because when the weather sucks everyone's too busy hiding inside to take pictures! :))

Seriously - Mid January, no leaves on trees, permanently grey skies and non-stop sleet and drizzle, mud everywhere, I'll be begging for some lovely Texas sunshine.

oh well i can see what they mean!
imagine that big feathered thing turning up and the NOISE! :{

ahhhhh i hope the chooks find their way home........and then your piggies will be so happy again x)xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

Lol, we would die for weather like that here! lol. Your always sweating, too hot to do ANYTHING outside, no plants, cant water anything because we are restricted to only water in the mornings or at nights (cuz the sun dries the water too fast that the plants can take anything in), you feel like passing out because of the heat, you get dehydrated. 8... grrrr Here its always hot, hot in summer, hot in winter, hot everyday, 24/7 365 days every year! It NEVER RAINS! :(
Maybe we should switch places. :p
