I feel terrible and I know I'm being selfish, Milo and Bette are living side by side in a 2 x 2. Which I can expand.

Yes, I am being Selfish. I don't want to give either pigs up. Sadly I don't think the parents will go for the can we get friends!

Now I can have 2 x 3 side by side. I suppose my question is am I horrible if I keep both and just have them side by side?

I was considering as Milo has been done and I feel awful he has been done to live side by side a female. I am so sad this is happened. One day he can have a friend as Bette is an old sow not that I'm wishing anything bad to happen I just mean it wouldn't be forever just hopefully for along time. Obviously there is the possibility of my situation changing too.

I am going to ask the parents about the possibilty of Milo getting a friend. As Bette has been on her own for 4 years and lives happily I have no problems with her living side by side shes more a people pig anyway! Then I could expand Milo and friend if it happens could have a 3 x3 with bette in a 2 x 3 next door. This solution is probably not going to happen. More than likely side by side living! :(

Sorry for the ongoing rant I'm feeling pretty awful!

I don't think you are being selfish at all Joanne. Obviously, if your folks will allow a friend for Milo, that would be good, but if they are to live side by side (just Milo and Bette) I think this is perfectly fine. Like you said, Bette is a people piggy so she will be happy and for Milo, although not nice to think about, but one day he will have a cage mate.

You spend so much time with your piggies every day giving them a lot of your attention, much more than a lot of us, I don't think you should feel bad for having them live next to each other. They will be very happy whatever you choose.

xx

My Mimsi has always lived side by side with my girls. I think the interaction they can have through the bars of the cage is what keeps him going. They all nuzzle each other through the bars of the cage. Some piggies may just prefer their own company and I'm sure Milo and Bette will live very happy lives. Dont feel fab hun.

Don't feel bad Joanne you have definitely done the right thing :)

I don't think thats selfish. Its whats best for them in the circumstances :). You shouldn't feel bad about it

I don't think it's selfish at all. You said you can expand the 2x2, so that's fine. I had my boys side by side in 2x2's for 3 weeks once. It's not ideal but it's fine while you sort everything else out. Sometimes we really have no other options.
You give them lots of love and attention. And living side by side, they won't be as lonely as if they were totally apart. They can still chat to each other and see each other.

Bette sounds like she'll be fine living that way and I'm sure Milo will manage just fine, too.

Don't feel bad. You're giving them the best life you possibly can. It sounds like a pretty good life to me.
If they can't live together then this is your only option.

Don't beat yourself up over this. You love them and you want to do right by them. As long as you do what you can, you have nothing to feel bad about.

Feeling much better now!

Thanks everyone! Now that I have thought about and ofcourse spoke to Helen who told me not to be so silly!

I get so upset, over silly things but the thought of giving them up was horrible! I currently have Bette cuddling into me, having a snooze.

Adleast here I know they are having the best life I can possibly provide for them and I don't have my pigs in a crappy wee hutch with nothing. They are inside, loved, cared for and treated like royalty!

I think side by side living isn't all that bad now that I've got over my initial devastation and as Everyone has said they aren't on there own! :<>

Big hugs.

Bette and Milo will be fine living side by side. It's a shame it didn't work out with them living together but they will have lots of love and attention and still be living in a piggy environment. Any pig would be lucky to live with you. x

Don't feel bad, you've given your guinea-pigs a great home and you take care of them, thats the main thing. It would be great if Milo could have a friend, but if they live side by side then they still have contact with other guinea-pigs.

It's not your fault, you tried your best. And I'm sure they'll be very happy side by side. They can interact loads but still have their personal space. They could even cuddle/lie next to each other at either side of the wire. It's almost the same as being in with each other really. :)

Aw Joanne, hugs to you. Don't feel bad, you've done everything you possibly can to help them get along. They can still see each other, as well as hearing your other piggies. They have a fantastic (and spoilt ;) ) life with you

Hope you are feeling a little better about all this now Joanne. Basically there is no problem at all in them living side by side - and they can communicate freely and will certainly not be lonely - so don't worry.

I completely agree with what's already been said. Any pig getting the chance to live with you is a very lucky pig indeed! You clearly dote on all your gang and your arrangements sound perfect, given the situation that you're in (i.e. them not getting on as you'd hoped!) xx

Milo and Bette have a great home and can now relax with company but with no confrontation. They are very lucky piggies to have someone like you.

Thank you everyone for your support and now I have got over the initial devastation I know it's not the end of the world!

It's amazing how upset I can get over my piggies real life problems don't even bother me as much. :)).

I was treated to a nice popcorn from Milo which is fab!

Your piggies all lead fab lives thanks to you, don't feel bad! I totally understand not wanting to give any one up... I could never give any of mine up either.

Bette is no problem, she is probably one of those pigs who are happier with other pigs at a distance but maybe work on your parents eventually allowing you a friend for Milo? He's just such a happy little chap and would probably love to share his flat with someone some day :) In the meantime or if theres just no way don't worry, he's fine!

Aww you shouldn't feel bad! I'm sure that they are fine living next door to one another and will be much happier as neighbours. :)

Just think how happy they will be just chatting to one another and not arguing over space or who's is who's. You can also relax and stop worrying about them.

You have definalty done the right thing. :) x x x
