Sorry to post but having never owned piggies before I'm worrying over every little noise they make.

Anyway, a little while ago one of my babies was eating and choked or possibly sneezed, carried on eating and choked/sneezed a couple more times and then starting munching again, is this normal or might there be something up?

Thanks for your help and sorrynof I seem to be making a fuss over nothing! 

I don't really know if I can help, but what was he/she eating? Could it have been that particular thing? Sorry I can't be of more help.

Sounds like your usual greedy piggy who's stuffing itself too much too quickly!

I get sneezes and coughs regularly at mealtimes.

Bless them, I honestly never expected such small creatures to eat so much with such enthusiasm!

She seems okay now, still starving hungry tho, apparently. You'd think I didn't feed them!

One of mine is a greedy wee thing and often makes that noise at veg time!

They're all at it now, had them a couple of weeks and never heard them do it before. I'm worrying more about these 3 than I would a new born baby! :)

I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, it was probably just eating too quickly.
My boy I have only had for two days I love watching him eat, it sounds so cute although I did panic abit earlier when he had a sip of water and made a little chokey sound but he was okay :) x

My Gertie does it all the time, really panicked me at first too lol

I have to admit that I think that piggie coughs are a really cute sound! (as long as they're not poorly of course ;) )

Yet another problem! Have just gone to have night night cuddles with the girls and found blood in the cage. I've had each out in turn and no one seems to be bleeding. Have changed their sawdust and no one has left any blood on it. Could it be one of them is on heat? Or have cut inside their mouth? I did wondered if it might be a toenail but as I said before noone has any blood on them!

Can you give a bit more info please....I take it you have three girlies and you;ve had them for a couple of weeks?

Are they altogether in one cage?
How old are they?
Where did you get them from?
Is there a possibility they might be pregnant?
Do they seem to get on well together and have they established the pecking order yet?
How much blood? a small spot or a more copius amount?
Was it bright red and thick or did it look like a watery stain? (eg like blood in the urine?)

It is possible that one of them had a hay seed up her nose and in sneezing it out has caused a bit of trauma to the nasal passage but without further details i would not like to rule out something that may need a veterinary visit.....blood in the cage is normally more indicative of a urine or reproductive problem

Thanks for your reply.

Answers as follows:
Are they altogether in one cage? Yes, all in one cage.
How old are they? Mum is about 7 months, babies about 3 months.
Where did you get them from? I got them from someone at work who initially was only selling the babies but then decided to give mum away too.
Is there a possibility they might be pregnant? I don't think so, the girl I got them off did have a boy but but they were kept separate, plus she gave him away before I got mine.
Do they seem to get on well together and have they established the pecking order yet? They get on fine, babies squabble a bit but nothing serious. As fir pecking order, mum is top but I'm not sure about the babies.
How much blood? Not a huge amount, about 6/8 little splodges (pretty much one bit of sawdust per spot) a small spot or a more copius amount?
Was it bright red and thick or did it look like a watery stain? (eg like blood in the urine?) it was bright red, it didn't look
Watered down although it was in their toilet corner.

One of them did do a few sneezes earlier so I guess it could be a hay seed.

I think that's everything.

Like I say I have looked at them all and can't see anything. And I've not noticed any more blood.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Monitor closey over the next few days...the occasional blood spot is just that...occasional....if it becomes any more frequent (i.e. daily)then please please come back and PM us......

My piggie Sundae does that sometimes with lettuce... I think she tries to cram so much in there that it doesn't all go down occasionally. She is the younger pig of the pair and if she doesnt' eat quickly 'big sis' sometimes takes all the favourites on her so I think she is in a hurry to get everything in when it's snack time!
