Well, I've just come down from a high after bidding for and winning a Nero 4 cage and stand on ebay! ;D :) ;D :) (Apologies if the seller or other bidder are on here! ;D ) The two cost me £32...which I am considering to be a bargain! This means Ben can move out of his cramped Nero 2 (I know, I know, but it was only going to ever be temporary) and will be able to stretch his legs once more! ;D :)

It also means the option of adding a friend for him. Now, I was advised to try him with a baby boy, but I think he is far too strong a character and wouldn't that also create the risk of getting another strong pig as the baby grew up? Would going to a rescue and trying him with older boars maybe work better? That's how my thought process works anyway, not sure about Ben's?! :-\

Thats excellent. I was outbid a couple of weeks ago on a Nero 4 to get it at £8.00 it went up to £16.00 with 7 seconds to go! >:( :tickedoff: ;D

Well, it is in Coventry so not that far from me - normally any cages are a million miles away! It's six months old and used to house two little rabbits who now live in a shed. And the stand will be handy I'm sure! Starting bid was £30.00 and there had been a bid on it for just over three days....oh, patience is a virtue! ;D Saved myself about £55 anyway, so it's all good! Go and pick it up tomorrow - thanks Dad!

lucky ben getting a new home :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: as for ben maybe take him to a rescue and let him pick out a friend. hoping all works out well for ben :smitten: he is off to a good start if dad can be presuaded to pick up ben's new home :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: you could always send garry to me in a post pack ;D ;D ;D love that video of him waddling and so does OH :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

I have twice successfully bonded a bereaved boar with another adult - but both times their first reaction towards each other was not particularly friendly, so in those cases I don't think I would have found it very helpful to try testing them out before choosing.
The first time was Sam, when his brother Snug died I adopted Rupert as a new friend for him - I had some difficulty finding a rescue which would allow me to adopt a boar to live near another boar at all, and when i did find one they had only one chap available - Rupert - so I took him and, after slow and careful introduction they became very good friends.

More recently after Sam died I have matched Roo up with Jez, who also recently lost his brother Tom. when Sam and Tom were alive, Roo and Jez never seemed to like each other at all, but now there are just the two of them left, I have been able to pair them up and they have become good friends. It has been a slow, careful process, but really rewarding.

I think pairing boars up as adults - if done slowly and carefully - can be better than with younger ones, since once the bond has formed, they are more likely to remain established rather than changing as a younger boar may who is still developing his personality.

Thanks for the advice...I'm just going to take it slowly I think. Not even sure where my nearest rescue would be. I'd like to try and rescue though, although my three boys so far are adopted. I'll keep an eye out in the rescue section, but they are always sooooo far away!
