The cause of impaction is a slackening of the anal sac,so it mostly occurs in older boars. Gps pellets are firm but they also pass some larger softer pellets which they reingest. These pellets contain vitimin B12.If the anul sac is a bit slack these softer pellets can form into a ball and stick inside the sac.
The symptoms are that the pig will look uncomfortable when sitting or walking and there will be a noticable bulge behind the testicles.
The treatment is easy, but very smelly!.Just gently roll back the sac and prise the lump out.If it has gone unnoticed it will be hard so you will have to use olive oil round the rim of the sac.
Once you know a boar has the problem, check his bottom at least once a day.If he is kept clear the lump will not become hard and will not be so smelly.Often the condition will clear up after a while, but mostly the boar will have the problem for the rest od it`s life.
