Bum TrimWhat does it mean if a guinea pig is in coat? Thankyou?
ThankyouIt's a term used by breeders who show their guinea pigs.
'In coat' means that the guinea pigs current coat matches that outlined in the breed standard.
For example if it is a long haired piggy then the coat hasn't been trimmed and meets all of the criteria (length, texture, colour) outlined in the breed standard.
Depending on the breed of guinea pig they may fail to meet the standard at certain times of year when they are moulting.
Another problem is barbering by cage mates, which is one of the reasons that show piggies often live alone to preserve their perfect coat![]()
