over a year ago now I decided to purchase two baby female guineas from pets at home, looking back this was a terrible mistake.
One of the 'females' was actually a male, and I noticed when I got home that the other female (Lil) had a large marble type lump under her chin..
I took her back into the pets at home store where they said that the in store vet surgery would treat her for free. The vet/moron decided that she had a cyst under her chin which needed treating with antibiotics.
I began the dose of antibiotics which soon gave her chronic diarrhea. My local vets who are amazing and specialise in small animals tried to help me cure her, but I knew she was too far gone..She then suddenly began having a fit after a couple of day of the meds, flailing around, really heavy breathing, couldn't stand etc. I rushed her back to the local vets in my village , but all they could do was put Lil to sleep as she was suffering have this seizure/fit.
My local vets then revealed to me that Lil had basically received a lethal overdose, and that guineas that young should not be taking anibiotics full stop because they digestive system is still un-developed and delicate.
absolutely furious I contacted head office, who were un-helpful, but I received a letter and a cheque for my Vet bills and the money I paid for Lil, no apology at all in the whole letter.
She was just a couple of months old when she died, she was so sweet and loving. I'm still heartbroken to this day. RIP Lovely Lil <3
