Hi i just posted in the housing section but not sure if it will be seen in there, just wondered who keeps their piggies in the kitchen? I have been told by someone who I dont think knows a lot about piggies that they should not be kept in the kitchen as it not good for them? Just wondered if anyone knows anything about this as we have a large kitchen and other half has offered to build me some indoor hutches for under the worktop on the other side of the kitche (away from cooker etc) x

Mine lived in the kitchen, just on the worktop, for a few months while their conservatory was being rebuilt. Not a problem. They loved loved loved it - on a level to greet people all the time, near to the fridge and able to deafen with wheeks when the fridge door opened, kept a beady eye on any cooking and vegetable chopping activity and they got lots of extra cuddles too! They really enjoyed being in the kitchen.

I did reply on the other thread but just wanted to say your guinea will enjoy being in the centre of attention. If I had a kitchen/diner I think it's an ideal place. maybe the person doesn't realise how much human company guineas enjoy.:)

My late guinea was in the kitchen but I can't put mine in there now as it has been redesigned and the cage wont fit. mallethead

I think it's a good place for food preparation for them etc, so long as its away from a washer and cooker enough.;)

My short haired boys who live downstairs are in an extension of my kitchen and they love it, they love hearing the fridge open and shouting for food and hearing me chop their veggies, as long as they are away from the cooker etc will be fine, if kitchen gets steamed up have the window open a little :)

Mine live in the kitchen/diner - although the diner is actually a conservatory. However, it's all one big open room so they are no more than 15 feet from the fridge and start wheeking when I walk anywhere near it! Ithink it's a lovely place for them to live as it's a busy room so they get to interact with everyone a lot. Cooking smells don't seem to bother them at all, although you may live to regret having them so close to the fridge :)).
