Hi all, I don't normally post very often but I'm having a dilemma. I'm going home for Christmas for 2 weeks and taking my 6 boys with me, they normally live inside with me. My only problem is the space available for them over Christmas is in the garage. They live in C&Cs which I'll be taking with them.
To keep them warm I'm planning on doing the following;
snugglesafes for everyone to go in their cuddlecups
I'm lifting the cages off the floor, or maybe putting thick crpet under the cage
Lots of hick newspaper on the cage floor with thick layer of carefresh
I'm going to make little fleece tents to go over the bedroom area to insulate it a bit more
big piles of hay
and blankets to put over the cage overnight

Do you think they'll be ok like this? I could borrow a little heater for them but it will send the electric through the roof and we're staying at boyfriends parents house while they're on holiday.

What do you reckon? Bad idea? Or anything else I can do to ward against the cold?

C & C's or cages, and garages are not usually a good mix. Good sturdy hutches would be better, however, you do seem to have taken all into account. They really will feel a difference. With all the care you seem to be taking, they should probably be alright. However, I would still have that heater on standby, even if it is just for overnights. Don't be tempted to bring them indoors for a cuddle though as they will really feel the difference in temperatures when they go back into the garage.
Thick newspaper is ok, but you will need to clean out quite often, and/or spot clean as the newspaper will hold wee, and wet newspaper is very cold.
Maybe others who have done something similar can give you more help. xx

Personally i would check that there is definitely not enough space for them in the house first and then if there isn't any i would do all the things you said and use the heater.

As Nutmeg said they will feel the difference so by putting the heater on should be adequate enough to make up the difference. Also put the heater on before they go in so the temperature is the same and leave the heater on at all time if possible.
