Did put a post in the wrong section:o

After lots of consideration we picked up our first skinnypig to join our furried guinea pigs indoors.
I keep thinking she is going to break because she feels very different to normal guinea pigs.
She is 10 weeks old and lovely to handle. she loves her food too.

Anyone else have a skinny?

Oh, how pretty - I love skinnies - they remind me of a clanger without the wooly jumper on :))

:(|) THAT'S IT ! The Clangers - I've often looked at skinny pigs and knew they reminded me of something other than a piggy rolleyes
I love The Clangers x)
Cocoa is adorable and I'm off to find my pignapping kit...:Ayociexp112:

Oh she reminds me of my Arabella...(RIP)
I love skinny's... I think they are amazing... Bella was the most loving girl I have ever had... And they may poop and eat more... But they make up for it with extra love... :)
Shes a stunner... :)

Cheap way to find out is what I've done in the photo:.. :)
Get a fleece blankie... Put it on the base of the cage and put the wore top back on... Then peg the rest of the blanket that's hanging round the edge... Peg it up on to the wire to make a sort of fleece cave... :))
They can sit on the layer of fleece... Or hide under the layer of fleece... :))

Great tip!

Adorable. Mum saw a black skinny pig today for the first time and fell in love. I think they are very cute. x)

Awwwwwww just lovely, she looks like a mini hippo! :)

What a beautiful girl. I love skinny pigs. I wish people would post more photos of their skinny pigs for me to drool over.

She's gorgeous and I am sure you have done plenty of research before getting her. However, I really wish people wouldn't buy skinnies. If there wasn't the demand for them then the breeders wouldn't see them as a way to make a lot of money and therefore breed more and more.

There are such a lot of guinea pigs in rescue who desperately need a lovely forever home. I just find it sad that these piggies have been deliberately bred to basically be 'abnormal'. Small animals like this really need their hair to help control their temperature.

Sorry to be so negative, but I am hearing about more and more piggies in desperate need of good homes and I would hate to think they are being overlooked.

I already have 8 rescue guinea pigs and 2 of their babies{didnt know they was pregnant and 1 of those is brain damaged} his name is spinnypig.
If I could have rescued a skinnypig, then I would have done, I have a house full of rescued animals and also help with my local Golden retriever rescue, so am a firm believer in rescue animals.
I took my time(3months} to look around and find someone who bred skinny's that I liked and was happy with their reasons for doing do.
I can fully assure all members that I wouldnt ever take on any animal unless I was able to care for it 100%, I run my own pet care business and have done for over 10 years so every day I see too many owners who simply shouldnt have their pets.
But right or wrong, I wanted a skinnypig and I bought one, and I would love to share her growing up with all of the forum.
I would also say that owning a skinny is NOTHING like a normal guinea pig and does indeed take lots of care and consideration.
Cocoa has been doing some research tonight ;)

are you sure, she looks like she has her eyes nearly shut to me, I'm thinking shes bored and nodding off zzz. She is stunning x

Cocoa is absolutely stunning, NoodleDoodle! However, I am not sure Facebook could be considered research?!

I was really hoping, praying, wishing that your thread would not receive any offensive, or negative comments - However, I realise that I should have asked for something more realistic, the moon perhaps?!

Good luck with introductions!

Best, and warmest wishes!

oh my goodness! Cocoa is ADORABLE! I've always wanted a skinny pig! I think they're some of the cutest piggies! I've never seen one in person, but some day I will have one!

She's beautiful and yes they do need slightly different care.

I am pleased to see how you have rescue pigs too - it is possible to rescue and care about pigs and own a skinny - I think so anyway.

Enjoy your beautiful girl.

x

Thank you everyone, not sure whether to start a thread, but would like to see your skinnypig cage set ups, we have her in the same set up as the others indoors but thinking to up the fleece and give her fleece hammock and tunnels.
