Is carefresh safe to use for Guinea pigs? I also have chinchillas & I’m told carefresh can be deadly for them if they eat it as it expands & can cause fatal internal blockages. So wanted to check if this could also be a risk for Guinea pigs?

I am currently using carefresh as after my boy had nasal discharge & sneezes I thought the wood shavings could be irritating it. However I find carefresh costs about £5 a cage clean, which I find quite expensive - are there any similar cheaper alternatives? I’m a bit reluctant to go back to wood shavings as I heard they should be kiln dried pine? I used to get pets at home’s own brand but it didn’t mention this on the packaging

Unfortunately I’m not in a position to use fleece at the moment so I’d be looking for a disposable bedding of some kind

HI @Teddy-Boys, I don't know about Carefresh I'm afraid but I'm sure someone will be along in a minute with some experience. I currently use Aubichick ( a finer version of Aubiose) - either are great (the aubichick is less expensive at around £8 per 20kg and the acubiose about £11 per 20kg) It is hemp bedding and I don't find it at all dusty. You can spot clean it easily so I find that it lasts a really long time (just remove and replace damp areas each day) :)

Ooh I’ve never heard of that before, thank you I will order that online. Hopefully that should work out cheaper too

If you have a countryside/farm store nearby do check there first - it is quite expensive to get it delivered due to the weight :)

I don't like Carefresh that much It's a bit expensive and I have heard it's very ineffective I have no personal experience with it myself and I hope I never do. Anyway Good Luck finding a good bedding :)

We have a thread about different types of bedding

Bedding For Guinea Pigs - Overview

I used to use a bedding similar to carefresh and what put me off was the cost

I use Aubiose . I have an equine supplier local to me that sells it at a reasonable cost
