One of my boars frequently makes a noise that can only be described as sneezing. He's showing no other abnormal behaviour, and is just as perky as ever, but this has come on rather suddenly and is happening a lot, and is causing me a bit of concern!

Some piggies can sneeze when they get something up their nose. If he's not showing any other symptoms then that's probably what's happening. Look out for other symptoms of a urti such as wheezing (you can hear that if you out your ear to their chest), squeaking coming from the nose, runny nose, sticky eyes.

What bedding is he on? Is his hay pretty dusty? Have you used any sprays (air fresheners etc.) in the same room as him? Minor 'allergies' can be fairly common, but obviously you'd want to find out what is causing it in order to ensure it is an 'allergy'.

He doesn't seem to be wheezing, and the hay we're using doesn't seem to be the issue. We're currently using fleece as a bedding, on a trial run.

I read somewhere to avoid air fresheners at all costs, so I religiously keep the piggies away from them.

He hasn't done it today so far, but I'm keeping an eye on him.

hi
I'm experiencing the same thing with my pigs. pancake has been sneezing on and off for a while, what does normal guine pig breathing sound like? ive had izzy for a week and not sure if its the 2 of them sneezing or not, both girls are happy, eating normally, drinking normally, running around etc etc can someone offer me some advice pls. thnx x

I've noticed over the day, and last night, that Fry hasn't sneezed at all, at least in the time he's been with me. During this time, he has had a bath and his change has had a super clean (toothbrush along the little nooks and crannys and bars and all! I looked like a crazy OCD cleaning lady), so I think there may have been something either on him or around his that was annoying him.

I changed to a less dusty hay today, I really didn't realise how many little particles came off the hay I was using until I got near the bottom of the bag and it was full of dust!
