just wondered if anyone thinks the heat is affecting their piggies?

My boy seems abit hot and bothered and has been doing some soft poos, he's happy enough and eating ok, running round etc,
but keeps doing soft poos, ive stopped all fresh food, keep giving him a syringe of water and have given some critical care by syringe, He has an ice pod in his cage to keep in cool Is it ok to let him have grass? do you think I should take him to vets

any help greatly received

My piggies are indoors, with the blind closed, frozen bottles in their cage and a fan on, but without the fan they are a bit lazier than normal. I have just been giving more watery veg than normal too.

So long as your piggie seems ok, i would leave him on a dry only diet for the next 24 hours, (he still needs his water bottle especially when its so warm) and see how he go's, but when in doubt always have him checked by a vet. Has he lost any weight? So long as the poo is not VERY soft or runny.

thanks toffeewoffee, ive just booked him in at vets tomorrow afternoon as a precaution, would rather get him checked just in case, the poo is quite thick but not jelly bean shaped as normal,(abit like a sausage machine with no skin) ive increased his watery veg to keep him hydrated but have stopped all fresh veg now to see what happens.

I lost my other piggie to similar thing, they think his guts had just given up but his poo was very wet and very smelly, so I'm so anxious with this piggy because of that, he is 3 and half now so I know he's getting older but I'm just so panicky with him

Thanks for all your advice
xx

Its good you have booked a vets app, if he gets any worse then get him there quicker. Leave all veg out, just lots of hay (even different sorts to try and tempt him) handfuls on the floor, unlimited dry food, again different sorts if he is off it.

Good luck xx

He seems a lot happier at moment, done some better poos not the normal size but getting better, will still take him tomorrow and get him checked,

given him some more critical care and lots of water, so fingers crossed

I think the head was affecting mine at the cottage last week. We have no air conditioning up there, and there has been a major heat spell in our part of Canada these past few weeks. They did eat less, to the point that I called my vet to book an appointment for Sundae because I was thinking her teeth were hurting her again (she had a molar spur filed about 3 months ago and I was concerned she had developed another one.) However, as soon as the heat broke, she perked back up and began eating normally. We did all we could to keep them cool, but it was still noticeably hotter than it would be on a normal day in our air-conditioned house, and they were evidently both feeling it!
