I welcomed an about 4 month-old girl guinea pig approximately a month ago so I am a newbie here. I am feeding her with timothy-based pellet and alfalfa-based pellet half and half and realized she is picking alfalfa-based pellet only. Since she is still young I guess eating alfalfa-based pellet is okay, but once she matured, she should eat timothy-based pellet, shouldn't she? Should I try more savory timothy-based pellet brand for her? Or will she start eating the current timothy-based pellet once alfalfa-pellet is not available? I am worrying she stops eating pellet at all and becomes starved if I stop feeding her with alfalfa-pellet... Please give me suggestions! :)

(I also give her some veggies, fruits, and unlimited timothy hay, too.)

Thank you,

Oh you're doing really well. Over time you'll be able to change her (name is??) to more timothy based foods. Just keep on watching this space and learn from other threads. You'll get heaps of advice just ask there's always someone there to help you.
Welcome to you and your little furbaby.

Welcome to the forum :)

It's fine as long as she's eating something at the moment. I'm sure in time she will eat them, if not why not try some other food? :)

Thanks for your comment! My guinea pig's name is Rachael.

Another question is,
the pellet bag contains too much for one guinea pig to use up before the expiration date. What are you guys doing with it? I am thinking about taking the half of the pellet to the local humane society while the pellet is fresh...

Hi there Rachael & Scozy, i keep Duke's pellet mix in a sealed plastic container so it stays fresh.
But hey if you're worried that's a great idea, as long as you can afford to buy it regularly.
I asked my produce store to make up a smaller bag of pellet mix for Duke as i have trouble going thru
that much quickly also. But i now find that i give him a fresh bowl of pellet mix twice a day, this is to
encourage him to eat, so i feel it's not a waste.
Piggie kisses to you Rachael :-*
