Most of you are aware of Nigel's ongoing health problems and his heart condition etc. Unfortunately he has taken a turn for the worse lately and from the results of his urine test and the symptoms he is showing, it is looking like his kidneys are failing.

We are back off to the vets later to get some Metacam for pain relief and we now need to keep him comfortable.

Some days he is lively but he has bad days too and I think today is one of those.

I'm sorry to hear this Helen, Is he still drinking his water? When they stop drinking it seems to be a warning that the end is near, well it certainly did with my Bette. It's the one thing that sticks in my head!

Thinking of you and Nigel - I hope when the time comes that he has a peaceful journey to the bridge if it is his time, and that he is as comfortable as possible!

Huge hugs. x

oh Helen, i am so sorry, dinky Nigel has had so much to deal with in his short life...thank goodness he has had so much love from you guys to counterbalance it.

Sending him some vibes, really hope his journey is comfortable and he is not in a lot of pain.

As for your heart...another story :0

He is still drinking but not to the extent he has been previously. We are giving him lots of extra fluids though.

Thank you, am keeping everything crossed that it is not his time but I think it may well be soon.

I am really sorry to read this, he is in the best of hands with you. Thinking of you both x x

Oh Helen I am so so sorry to hear about poor Nigel. You have tried so hard for him.

Thinking of you at this time and hope you do have some quality time left with him. x

Lots of hugs, my piggie died two weeks ago from heart/kidney issues. But he went peacefully all sprowled out quite the thing in his sleep. Even though its not nice and so so heartbreaking hold on to the fact hes warm, loved, comfortable and not in pain. If his hes ready to slip away that is how your would choose to go and hed thank you for doing everything you can right now. Stay strong. Thinking of you *hugs *

I am so sorry to hear this. Sending hugs to you, you are both in my thoughts x

Yes, well that may be a problem, am finding this all very difficult.

i bet you are hon, i only wish i could say something to help, you have given so much to Nigel and had such a close bond, it is going to be painful :0 there is no denying it. We are all here for you when you need us x>>

:( so sorry to hear this Helen. You are doing everything you can for him, and he will know that. Big hugs x

Oh no this is such bad news. I am so so sorry. :( My thoughts are with you.

Thank you everyone, we have been to the vets tonight and she finally agreed to give us Metacam though at a very low dose. She said she was worried about his kidneys but I pointed out that he is at a stage where we just want him to be comfortable. He is moulting continually though and left half his hair over me and the table. He scared me while there though as he went limp and floppy but he has perked up since we have been home, has eaten some salad, tried to climb from my shouder into my pencil case and is now eating his pellets.

I think we need to take each day as it comes.

Thank you. Am sitting at work in bits as we have had to leave him at home on his own today whereas yesterday the OH was at home. He was up and about eating this morning and am taking it as a good sign that he wants to eat, shows he wants to stick around a bit longer. Had to give him extra diuretic though as his breathing has deteriorated.

((((HUGS)))) I'm so sorry you are going through this, its so difficult when they get so poorly. Really pleased he is eating more, its a good sign that the pain has eased for him. You are all in my thoughts and prayers x

Oh Helen, Big Big Hugs, its a very sad time and I expect the grieving has started for you already... It has for me as my Pepper is going down hill and I top him up with Metacam to keep him comfortable.
:(

Thinking of you and Nigel today - please remember how much joy & love he has had with you.

x

I'm sorry about pepper too, thinking of you xx

I'm sorry to hear about poor Nigel and poor Pepper - what loving owners they both have xx

Helen I'm so sorry to hear this about Nigel, he's such a special piggy.
He really reminds me of my Monty, I know he had undisclosed issues health wise, think Monty had kidney issues. I knew in August he was going downhill, and got metacam for last few days which I hope helped him. I know how special he is to you. It's so hard, I really struggled with losing Monty & Freddie so quickly, but do remember all the great times.
Hope things go ok, sending hugs x

We have tonight had to rush Nigel to the vets to be put to sleep as he was suffering. I will post a tribute when I can see to type properly :(

I am truly sorry and feel your pain as I know Nigel was your special little man

:(

I have been checking for updates all evening, I am so so sorry.

Rip Nigel, Popcorn over the bridge and run free in the grass

Big hugs

:(
