Marvin at just coming 14 weeks weighs 674 grams, he weighs just 236 grams less than Fred and he's over a year and a half! Is Marvin a heavy baby?! rolleyes

My "little" Telyn is even bigger - but totally healthy and active, so don't worry!

I wondered about this as my piggie Wispa at 16 weeks old was 750g and now at 20 weeks is 940g (Mars his bro is marginally smaller) and my once tiny baby Rocky at 14 weeks was 650g. :))
I don't free feed pellets (once a day) but they have unlimited hay and veggies twice a day so don't think I'm overfeeding them - or perhaps this is normal weights. I know that my older boys are only just tipping the scales at 1kg and that adults have a fairly wide range of normal weights. Normal or big boys?!

I'm going to go with normal since Marvin is 2 weeks younger and probably going to be that weight too. In fairness I've thought Marvin was huge! I think they are big boned... or maybe I need to fatten Fred up rolleyes!

Both are gaining weight nicely Marvin obviously more than Fred!

I know that mine seemed to grow so quickly from babies to almost full adult sized within weeks but suppose that as they mature fairly quickly then they are probably not far off adult weight by the time they're around 7 months old perhaps? Scruffs, my 11 month old, is still gaining weight but much much slower than the younger ones so am assuming they have a growth spurt and then slowly pad out. :)

I thought they stopped growing as such at 6 months, I have no clue why I thought this... Obviously they will continue putting weight on but not getting bigger as such does that make sense just fatter? Am I talking crap? :{

I have just copied a bit of a very good thread that Laura-CCC4 did on the guinea pig care section about the importance of weight etc.

"Most guinea pigs reach their adult weight at 9-12 months. Their weight should stabilise, although it is normal for another notable gain to occur a few months later. As with every other species, including humans, some are naturally very large while others are far more dainty and petite. The generally accepted weight range is 2lb to 4lb, or 900g - 1800g, although some piggies may be perfectly healthy and slightly outside these margins. As long as the piggies are eating well, healthy and can move around normally, you should not need to fret about the size of them."

I think this means our young piggies are not going to be in the dainty and petite category!rolleyes

Hope this helps. The rest of the post is also very informative.

That helped greatly imagine how big a 1800 piggies would be xx>>>, I'm sure they would give fab cuddles lol!

Ooh I imagine they would be lovely and squidgy. :)) We will have to have a weigh-in in about 4 months time to see if any are near the 1800g mark! And of course, pigtures!

my furby is dainty and petite at 850g and never seems to gain or lose cottonbud is a healthy 1100g

Mork is 5 and a half months and is 940g. He doesn't look big but i'm guessin ghe must be dense!
