Hi everyone 🙂
This is probably a silly question but can guinea pigs eat moss? When I put them on the grass I try to avoid any patches of moss in the lawn but sometimes I notice a bit after I've put them out so I wanted to check it's not dangerous for them.
I googled it and got contradicting answers. One website said it's fine and they will ignore it and another website said its poisonous! Which one is correct?
Thanks

I am not an expert in this, but from what I have heard it is dangerous. I think it would be best to stay on the safe side and not let them have it. I hope this helps!

The lawn at my old house had moss in it and my piggies just ignored it and ate the grass. They haven't gone on the "lawn" at my new house yet only because there are about 3 blades of grass and the rest it moss so there is not enough for them to eat.

Mine tend to eat around moss and other weeds, as lone as your lawn has grass they will avoid it. You could take the moss out and a sprinkling of Sharp sand for drainage and sew some grass. Forking the lawn too improves drainage too, with a garden fork, but it’s hard work!

Thank you for replying so quickly, I'll still try and avoid it as much as possible but it's good to know they will most likely ignore it. I like to watch them potter about so if they did start to eat it hopefully I would see and be able to block it off.

Most of the moss seems pretty dead anyway and I started pulling little bits out absent mindedly when I was sat outside today anyway so that'll help a bit 😂

Excellent..I have just removed a bunch of moss from the patio and chucked it..I was thinking meh no surely they can't eat it, when I saw the thread title..would have been a waste! :D No moss then good! Glad it isn't on the grass..I even pulled up the buttercup creepies..odd remnant of dandelion leaves..we shall be good to go tomorrow..all set up!
