My guinea pig Sam was itching his mouth area when he was eating his lettuce. Could he of had some stuck in his mouth? Also I'm not sure if this is just a normal guinea pig thing but what does it means when their fur looks like its kind of sticking up? Like as it their hackles were raised but their hackles arnt actually raised? Everything the guinea pigs do i instantly get worried however my mum never rekons theres anything wrong and please dont hate me for this but she won't nessicary let me take them to the vets. Unless i know for shore thats there something wrong like dinofintely even then shes still hesitant but yeah xx

It could be the food was tickling or a bit of food was in his mouth at an odd angle, 2 of mine did this recently with some pepper. I would monitor for now.

Is the hair sticking up when they are eating? most pigs do that I think it is to protect them from predators or something like that.

Ah okay, i shall do :) ahh i see. Well that makes sense ;) thankyou, I'm not worrying now :D x

My three huddle up and turn into pig-balls when they eat - they're Abby cross so their hair sticks up anyway, but the huddling does make it worse!

Is he pawing at his mouth as if something is stuck? Does he pull his lips back when he's chewing? Those can be a sign of tooth issues in back. If you see a lot of it, I would get his teeth looked at. However, if it's an occasional thing, I think sometimes the food just gets stuck. I've seen both my pigs paw at their mouths or stretch their lips to rearrange a piece of food on occasion, but when it's a regular, everyday thing there has always been underlying tooth problems.

Hmm okay. I have been concerned about both my guinea pigs earth actually. I'm not sure how LNG is too long?

yes they do puff out when eating. aslong as the fur isn't that way any other time then it could just be that. although if he continues to 'paw' at his mouth i would take him for a check up just incase it is his teeth or he has some food stuck somewhere.
