Hello everyone, my female guinea pig Cookie has been making sneezing/coughing noises lately. There’s no discharge coming from her nose or mouth and she otherwise seems very happy and healthy. We use several different types of hay and have tried removing each one to see if it was a specific hay that was causing her to sneeze/cough but so far nothing seems to have changed.
Is it best I have our exotics vet take a look at her, just to see if there is another issue? And what are typical allergy symptoms in piggies?

Hi!

Please have a look at this link here. It contains a list of the most comment irritants that you can find in a home that many people are not aware of. If you suspect a sensitivity (allergies are in a fact very rare), then it is unfortunately a tedious process of elimination.
Irritants to Avoid Around Guinea Pigs

Please include a vet check if symptoms persist to make sure that it is not a respiratory infection. Unlike a viral human cold URI is a bacterial infection.

Thank you for this! Our piggies do live in our room for the time being but we do try to keep any aerosols outside the room (i.e. spray perfumes outside the room) but I’ll definitely try to be more careful and keep an eye out if it persists. 🙂
