Hi All

We've had a sick piggie who we took straight to the vets who diagnosed an eye infection so prescribed drops and antibiotics to cover her. The antibiotics/drops seem to have worked as her eyes have cleared up nicely and she is getting about much more, foraging for hay, nibbling veggies etc and we've had her on the supreme science recovery for a couple of days.

Although eating and taking water from syringes she seems rather tired and I just want to see if other people have experienced this and whether there is anything we need to do? I'm hopeful its not a problem and that she is just a bit lethargic due to the illness she's had. I know us humans get tired when we have infections.

Thanks

Hi you, Welcome to the forum.

Sorry to hear your piggy has been poorly lately. Has she finsihed her course of drops and antibiotics? How long ago was the infection?
Some Antibiotics such as Baytril can affect a piggies appetite. Normally a lethargic piggie shows they are still under the weather and the infection may not have fully cleared up yet, so I would get her back to the vet for a check up.

It's a good idea to be weighing her daily to make sure she's getting enough food, while she is poorly. How is her weight?

Hi there

Thanks for the welcome and the words of wisdom.

We had her to the vets on saturday so she has been on the antibiotics and drops for a few days. Weighed her yesterday after you suggested it and she'd put on 5 grams since the vet weighed her on saturday, however she is still much smaller than our other two. She is foraging for hay and had some red pepper yesterday and we've tried mashing up some pellets for her so we can syringe feed her but she doesn't seem interested. She would take the recovery formula but we have none left now :(

She does seem a lot livlier and responsive. We have separated her from the other two so we can keep an eye on what she is eating, and we gave her some time with them last evening which seemed to help a little, she was in the tunnel, pushing the other two around if they got too close and climbing up the side of the cage to get at the hay.
