is the box safe

My dad brought a box with oranges in but some of the oranges went mouldy so they left a stain in the box, he said i could have it for my girlys and i want to use it as a hay box as they can chew it, but it is help together by stalpes is that safe or will it hurt there teeth if they chew it? or whould it be safer if i took the staples out and used wood glue instead? here are some pics but they r not very **



it has holes but i will put newspaper and hay in so there feet wont get caught

i would just put some newspaper on the bottom to cover the staples, cant see any sharp bits on it that could hurt them, but keep checking over time though x
