I have one female and one neutered male guinea pig. The female is really friendly. She licks my hand and squeaks happily when I take her out for cuddles. However the male (Zazu) acts strange when I take him out. He has very hormonal behaviour when he's in his cage and rubbles/shows off all of the time. When I take him out though he'll just sit there and not move. He doesn't try to hide or run away. Do males usually do this when taken into a different room from their female for a short period of time?

I don't think its specific to sex. Most of the males I have had have been right lap piggies and will lounge on you and watch tv as long as you let them whereas my females with one or two exceptions have been more skittish and timid and will try to hide. Does he get himself comfy? Peter used to curl himself round like a dog would whereas Donald just stretches out.

He doesn't really get comfy he'll just sit when I put him. It's like he's frozen.

How long have you had him? It sounds as though he is just a little unsure and scared. In the wild piggies 'freeze' in hopes predators don't notice them and it sounds as though he is just wary of the new surroundings

it can be instincts to just freeze if they are unsure or feel threatened. One of my first piggies did this every time I cut her nails and it led me into a false sense of security that nail trims were easy :))

I would try to build up lap time, put a chair near to the cage so he can still hear, see and speak to his friend for comfort or try bring them both out for laptime and see if he behaves differently

I'll have had him for a year in mid December. He will also sit still when I trim his nails, it's a slight perk I guess :))

He sounds like he's a bit scared. My dominant boy spike was like this and he still hates being picked up but is quite happy and lays down on my lap as he's gotten used to being held
