Morning all,

I have just been tidying the living room today (was too tired last night). I had a couple of hours sofa time with the boys. When I have cleared up the towels and puppy pads I discovered that their pee was this colour:

I wasn't sure if this was a normal colour - it looks a little bit brown. Does pee darken when it dries?

Yesterday they ate: nuggets, hay, baby corn, cucumber, pepper, celery, coriander, apple, grass, grass and grass.

Neither of them appear in any pain and we knew when they were peeing and neither of them squeaked or looked uncomfortable.

They are going into boarding tomorrow as I am going on holiday. I know Sarah will look after them really well but am just a little bit concerned that they might be poorly. Surely I would have some indication of illness if they had a UTI though?

Urine can sometimes change to an orangey rusty color when drying this can be due to the oxidation of porphyrins in the urine. So the urine comes out clear then changes as it drys.

Maybe worth popping them in a Tupperware box after syringing them some water or giving them wet veg and seeing what colour the wee is as it comes out. This will give you piece of mind and just double check there s no problem.

Blood in the urine (unless it is so thick that it is mostly blood - and you cannot fail to notice THAT) either dries as small reddish spots in the middle of a urine patch or as a reddish rim around a differently coloured patch, depending on the amount of it.

Yours is uniform, so it is very likely just coloured from some veg they have eaten or from oxidisation (which can cause orangey or rusty coloured pees where the rim will dry in the same colour).

Yes I'd definitely agree with sport_billy and Wiebke, looking more dietary etc. When my recently parted Sheepy had his UTI there was an obvious difference in the urine, patchy and a different colour from the blood and wee.

My chinchillas are terrible for it, when I first adopted them was horrified when I'd find VERY dark patches of urine (or they'd spray it around playing during a five-foot jump!). But after lots of dried herbs and flowers realise they can have 'Rainbow Wee' sometimes, depending on the munch!

What colour pepper was it? Sometimes red makes my guineas that colour, so does carrot,
