Hi everyone. I recently had 2 adorable skinny pigs come through the vet clinic I work at as an owner surrender. They arrived housed together, the owner stated they never bred 😓 ...but are both male and female.

I now have them separated but the male is doing a lot of what I presume to be marking and is quite stinky. We suspected a bit of an impaction but i found a lot of smegma (?) Which was very smelly and sticky, not really any fecal matter. Although after I cleaned the area about 15 pellets came out.

Could someone here with more experience advise of if you see anything of concern? Or if this little pig just needs some consistent cleaning. He is estimated to be approx 1 year old.

As stated I did attempt to clean the area with a qtip, coconut oil and a quick bath as his skin was dirty. But I wont lie, I was kind of intimidated and didnt want to over due it or cause injury. Please help!

That looks quite clean to me. I’ll tag @PigglePuggle @HeatherRose and @Flutterby who are experienced skinny pig owners. I don’t think you’re supposed to bath them regularly though.

As a side note, you’ll have to put your girl on pregnancy watch I’m afraid. How can the owner say they weren’t bred but was keeping them together? It may not have been intentional but that WAS breeding! I’ll link the pregnancy diet below for you to have a read through. For now you’ll assume she’s pregnant until you know otherwise.

We’d love some photos when you get a chance. Please also add your location to your profile - that way information can be more tailored in future.

Lastly, have you registered them with the vet? I would get them in for a general health check.

:agr: . Looks like you've done a good job cleaning, just keep an eye on the area as there is a chance he will need it doing regularly now.

Can't really help here as my skinny pig is a chocolate coloured girl, and in my opinion all skinny pig bums look very strange!
I can say that skinny pigs need no more regular baths or skincare than ordinary piggies, probably less in fact as they dont get poopy fur tufts and wee stains, but a problem greasegland may need regular cleans every 2 to 3 weeks just like in a furry piggy x
