I have a beautiful 8 week old piggy called Bertie! He's been through so much in his short life. He was brought to keep my older boar Mylo company but then a week later he sadly passed away. He was 4 years old so putting it down to old age. So then a couple of days later I got Bric a piggy the same age as Bertie. Sadly less than a week after we got him he passed away. There was no signs of illness apart from some sores on his body. This turned out to be mange that he passed on to Bertie. Bertie is being treated for this at the vets by injection. I can't get another pig until the mange has cleared up.

So now you have the back ground info I'll get to my question. Everytime he hears me walking around the flat or he hears my voice he weeps really loud. Is this normal or is he in pain? Also after he's had 'floor time' and I put him back in his cage he has a crazy five minutes. He does circuits of his cage at super high speeds. I'm scared he's going to crash and hurt himself.

I'm probably being over protective as I've lost 2 pigs in as many weeks and don't want to lose Bertie.

Any advice greatly received. Even if it is to tell me I'm being silly and paranoid. X

hi i am not an experts only had my boys 2 years but this his just his way of communicating and sounds like he is excited thats why he is running round his cage when my boys go out in there hutch outside when warmer they go mad upstairs down have mad half hour . i have bells on my keys and when i unlock back gate they start wheeking . with them being inside at the mo as soon as they hear the bedroom door go they start when i am coming down stairs and when the fridge door goes lol :))

Perfectly normal piggie behaviour :)
Bertie is just calling to you.....he's probably hoping you'll give him a treat too ;)
Our boys used to run riot when we'd put them back into the cage, where as the girls are a little more sedate.... i think they're just happy to be back in their home, mind you i bet he loves cuddles with you too :)
You're not silly......just being a lovely & caring piggie mummy xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
