Hello i am hoping somebody is able to help me and my piggy! I have 2 guinea pigs who live in the same cage. About 6 weeks ago one of my guineas scratched his face just below his eye and lost some hair and made it bleed. I took him to the vet who prescribed fuciderm gel which cleared it all up nicely. Today however he has done it again. Its on the same side of his face just a little lower down this time. Both guineas have a monthly mite treatment. Also my other guinea is absolutely fine so I'm not convinced its mites causing my guineas itchy face and it doesnt look like a fungal thing either. Does anybody know why he is doing this? Thank you

Could you post a photo? I know you don't think it is fungal but it does sound a bit like Ringworm to me because of the location.

Hi! I would still think fungal; it can start off with a piggy scratching itself bloody. (See the first picture in our ringworm guide, which I took the day after I though Tegan had just got a bloody scratch in her face by accident)

Thanks so much for your replies! I will take a picture in the morning and get it posted for you to see, however, after looking at the link it does look like what Rory has. I will get him treated and see how he gets on. Thank you!

Ringworm (if it is that) is very contagious, both to other pigs and humans, so you should check out everyone and take extra hygiene precautions.
