Hi I have two seven year old guinea pigs who are in with two younger guinea pigs. The two older ones have a dull looking coat and very itchy skin, especially on their rump. They have been with the two younger ones for about a month now and they are showing no signs of itchy/dull coat. I have a hunch that it’s a fungal infection but I’ve tried a few things for a while now and nothing seems to work. Or maybe is it just how their coat goes as they get older? However I am concerned about one of them who has seemed to have become quite skinny over the last year but I asked my vet and they said that sometimes they tend to loose fat and appear skinny but are completely healthy. But she has extremely bad looking coat and very itchy skin so some advice to at least reduce or get rid of the itching for her would be wonderful!

Sorry for the long post haha

I think you should get your vet to check for mites and fungal infection, not all pigs are equally susceptible/show severe symptoms as fast as others so you should get the vet to check for sure!

Hi! Please have your piggies vet checked for mange or hay mites as well as a fungal skin infection or dry skin (which is always only a default diagnosis after mites and fungal have been excluded. Please do not home treat on spec with products that are not strong enough to clear the problem and may not even be treating for the correct thing.
What to check and look out for in new guinea pigs (vet checks, sexing, parasites&illness)
