Hi,
I have heard that horse wormers with ivermectin are okay to give to pigs to prevent mites. So far, I have only come across one brand of horse wormer that has ivermectin, and was wondering if it’s safe to give? The brand is equimec, and I’ve attached a photo of the product description. Thanks 😊 44B8AC87-CDE8-4F88-8A4D-572770922E5B.webp

I would absolutely not use any form of horse warmer for guinea pigs.
It would be almost impossible to get the dose correct and you could cause serious harm to your pets.

If you are concerned your guinea pigs have motes they can be quickly and easily treateted wit a prescription medication from your vet.

:agr: The only way to treat mites is to go to a vet for diagnosis and then they will prescribe the correct treatment. Anything else is not safe

Preventative medications aren't very good. They tend to increase the mites resistance to treatment causing infestations to be harder to get rid of. You would be much better leaving alone unless there is a confirmed infestation of mites where your vet can then prescribe an appropriate product

I wouldn't use the horse version as the dosage would be far too strong/complicated to give safely.

Have a vet diagnose if it's lice/mites or something else (possibly fungal, hormonal or a general skin condition).

If it is mites/lice Xeno Ivermectin products are suitable for guineas/small animals but still come in different strengths (50/450) for different weights (kind of age related). Your vet will recommend a suitable strength treatment & schedule.

Two or three separate treatments are recommended to kill any newly hatched juveniles.

If it's suspected mites or fungal issues it's probably better to take all of your Guineas to the vets to get them diagnosed and treated at the same time :tu:

(Often cheaper online, but currently long waits for delivery - so probably worth the extra money from the vets to give your Guineas same day relief). Usually in boxes of 6pipettes.

Good luck, let us know how you get on x
