If you move the skin does it move? It might be a cyst, totally harmless unless it grows really big. Poppy has had two little cysts for months now and they have caused her no problems apart from me poking them to see if they have grown which they haven't.

i've just has another look and i couldn't really tell because he was being a fidget, but i just pressed on it and it feels a bit soft and squidgy :{

I would recommend having your piggy seen by a vet. Chances are that they are lipomas (harmless fatty lumps), but you want somebody knowledgeable to have look at them. It is one of the things where a thing needs to be seen and felt to make a safe diagnosis.

Here is more info on lumps:

Does it move with the skin or is it attached to the tissue under the skin?

It's worth seeing the vet over. My guess would be either a fatty deposit, a cyst, or an abscess... one of my piggies is currently being treated for an abscess in a similar location so it's worth a check!

My initial thought before and on seeing the picture was sebaceous cyst. However, that is at best a guess, lumps are not my forte and definitely need to be examined in person. I'd check with the vet, who should be able to check the contents of the lump and make a diagnosis. :)

thanks for all the replies (sorry i've not replied sooner, couldn't get on the forum for some reason!) i rang my rodentologist and shes going to have a look tomorrow for me, it hasn't got any bigger and he's not bothered about me touching it so hopefully its just a cyst that she can remove under a LA

Hi

AS has already been said, it could be a sebaceous cyst, Fatty lipoma an Abscess or even a tumor and probably non malignant if it is. I would have thought is un-likly to be an abscess as they are quite rare in that possition.

One of mine had quite a big lump in that possition and it turned out to be a tumour, that was easy to remove.

Good luck with the diagnosis at your rodentoligist.

Regards

SGP

Good luck visiting the rodentologist, I hope you get a 'good' diagnosis and easy treatment for J.J. :)

i can finally relax as the lump has been diagnosed as a sebaceous cyst, hes having it removed at some point next week, hopefully :)

Glad to hear that it's not something worse. Hope all goes smoothly next week.

If you don't mind me asking, which Rodentologist do you use? Just wondering as you're located not too far from me and, as we all know, good piggy experts are hard to come by :)

Unfortunately my rodentologist was unable to remove J.J's cyst, i was going to try and get to see Vedra but my partner works 6-6 monday to friday and i work weekends, i don't drive either so i'm on the hunt for a guinea savvy vet in bedfordshire/buckinghamshire who will remove it under a LA

Missy, i will sent you a PM :)

I know it'd be a bit of a trek but if you could get up to Northampton, there's a very well recommended Vet up there. (Simon Maddock at Cat & Rabbit Clinic in Duston) Obviously I couldn't say whether or not he'd want to use a GA but by all accounts he'll only use a GA when absolutely necessary.

Good luck x

Hope J.J. is okay and you can find a good vet :)

My Pippa had a cyst on her side. Our vet made a small cut and removed the contents. She is on a course of baytril and needs the wound to be flushed and cleaned daily but it is healing well and has not refilled. It looked a little bigger than J.J.'s too. The size of a processed pea is probably the closest comparison

Just a thought if you're struggling to find someone who can completely remove it?

Is the cyst bothersome - i.e. is J.J annoyed by it, or is it growing, or in an uncomfortable spot?

Hi Laura, it doesn't seem to be bothering him, i haven't seen him scratching or trying to bite it, its just above his grease gland and does seem to be getting bigger :(

I have a very unhappy piggie :( the vet decided to make a small incision in the cyst to get some of the stuff out of it and it was horrible J.J was a good boy and didn't even squirm but now he's just sat in his big tube looking miserable :( she also gave me some stuff called FucithalmicVet and he has to have a drop put on the area 3 times a day, anyone else heard of this? she told me that shes used this stuff before on guinea's that have had the same problem so it must be good? i must admit the area looks a whole lot better!
