I can't quite believe I am having to type this, but sadly we lost little Jazz last night.
He had complicated stoma surgery earlier in the summer following the removal of a large bladder stone which was wedged in his tubes, his stoma continued to work well to the end, but sadly he became a little listless and quiet a few days ago and despite a couple of visits to the vet we lost him last night - surrounded by his 3 girlies and my 2 daughters. Nicola, our vet, thinks it was just "his time", his little body was obviously going into shut down yesterday.
Jazz came to us from a rescue in the summer of 2007 as an 8 month old ex show/breeding piggy - the breeders loss was definitely our gain. He settled in straight away and kept his 6 wives in place. Over the years girlies have come and gone and he was living with his 3 remaining wives, all old ladies of 6 and 7 now, they don't quite know what to make of the quiet cage this morning.
I know you shouldn't have favourite piggies, but with Jazzy you just couldn't help but spoil him that little bit extra. He was such a funny looking little chap, hair all over the place and little chicken feet, everyone loved him. If nothing else, Jazzy has helped Nicola in her further studies of piggy care/anatomy, his stoma was the first one she had done on a guinea pig, so at least his surgery was not in vain and it also meant that we had a couple of extra months with our gorgeous little man.
