Hello Everyone!
It has been just over 7 weeks since Jeffery and Sonic were neutered.
About 3 weeks ago Jeffery had a abscess appear at the surgical site.we went to the vet where he recieved antibiotics into the abscess. Since than we have been going back twice a week (on request of the vet) to ensure it is healing well. Today we went back due to abother abscess more draining of insanely bad smelling pus (bad infection :( ), more antibiotics and returning friday. What can I do to help my boy get better? I've been doing saline cleans of the wound every day? Anything else I can do?

Next problem.
Jeffery has been losing weight since he went for surgery but its starting to get to a concerning point of almost 30g. He's eating and everything tho very picky he won't touch carrot or bell peppers anymore but loves lettuce atm like eat it all day if he could kinda love haha hes eating hay and pellets and pooping normal but still weight lose. Should i start critical care? What are some fatty fruits and veggies I can offer? A fatty hay prehaps? Any suggestions would be amazing I dont care about money i just want my baby to be healthy since he seems happy (popcorning and zoomies, cuddles with his piggy wifes) I just want him healthy please help.
Thank you so much everyone

Has the vet given you anything to use on the wound? Has the stitches been removed now? Has the vet left an opening in the abscess for you to flush it?

Usually there would be an opening left by the vet which you would flush out. Sometimes it scabs over so you would need to remove it.

You can use cool boiled water to flush it. I'm not massively experienced in it but used a curved tip syringe. Other people have used a regular syringe.

I've heard that putting manuka honey in the hole can help it heal too.

30g isn't a massive amount to lose. That can eaily be the weight of a wee! There's not really anything fattening you can give. You could give him more, time on his own to eat or feeding him by hand. I know my boys will eat bits of veg they ignore on their cage floor if I hold it for them.

Hello.
Their is a opening on the wound he did say to clean the site but didnt mention to flush. I am more than happy to flush the site though if you guys suggest it. The stitches were removed about 3/4 weeks ago and have healed wonderfully just the abscess to worry about.
Thank you for your reply :)

Poor Jeffrey! He should join Iggy's support group for post-neuter problems! :))

Flushing is gross as hell but the only way to go from what I've seen, you could always check in with the vet for a tutorial. They can also give you the syringes (without needle) and saline solution as well.

Hope he feels better soon!

Hello.
I already have saline solution and I believe it would be similar to flushing a humans wound? Ill have a YouTube and call my vet tomorrow and ask.
I am sad this happened to Jeffery but pleased with how my vet has handled it so many check ups free of charge only paying for antibiotics and he explains everything today when he noticed the weight loss he checked his teeth which to me is good signs.
Thank you for your help :)

I can't say I've ever flushed a human wound but I'm guessing it's similar XD

I'm sure he'll feel so much better once he's all healed up and gets himself a lass :)
