Today I took Jerry to the vets as he has a lump on his back. He has been given a weeks worth of antibiotics. I'm keeping everything crossed that this will work for him and that the lump is not a tumour. The vet did say that there was puss in the lump. Any one else experienced this with there piggys.?

It depends whether it is an abscess or a cyst and how big it is. Did your vet drain it and what antibiotic have you been given?

The vet didint drain it as wanted to see how the antibiotics worked. Jerry has Baytril antibiotic twice a day. The lump is the size of a sprout

Ouch - that is large! Baytril may not be strong enough to cut through the infection. Please contact your vet asap if the lump is growing in size.

Your vet may want to consider Zithromax if the Baytril doesn't help. It can be very effective especially if it does turn out to be an abscess. An abscess would need flushing though.

They may want to finish the Baytril course first.

I found a lump on my Charlotte's back. Just to the side if her spine, it didn't feel hard but it worried me so I took her to the vet. She's now had a week's antibiotics (which she got very good at trying not to let us give her!) but the lump is still there. I took her back to the vet yesterday & they are reluctant to operate at the moment which is fine by me but she is now sporting a rather unfetching haircut! The vet put a needle in it which produced clear liquid (phew!) & we need to take her back in 2 weeks. The vet said they sometimes get accesses or cysts & they can get bigger before they get better. As long as the piggie is still eating, behaviour ok & it isn't bothering them my vet wasn't overly concerned & we just need to monitor her & the lump. Hopefully it will be the same with your piggie. Fingers crossed!
