Tonight ive been in Jollys to pop in for some timothy hay and i am that angry i could have exploded! :tickedoff: At the front of their shop they have hutches out on show and there were small BOX hutches sizes 24inchX12X12! It looked like some sort of prison room.Hardly any open wire side I'm so mad is there anything i can do, i have taken down the product number etc ..Any suggestions .surely this cant have been approved to say its adequate housing for a pig ..plus their care sheet..i only read 2 lines and ripped it up. :tickedoff:

RSPCA they have guide lines now for sizes of hutches? or the manufactures, complaint to them stating why its NO good!
GOOD LUCK O0 O0 O0 O0 O0 O0 O0

Ooohh i saw those when i went the other day, they are tiny...i dont know why the sell them, someone who doesn't know much about pigs may buy one thinking its a good idea. They are not even big enough for a toy guinea pig :(

24x12x12... my guinea-pig's is 29x19x i dnt know, never checked but its kinda high, though its an indoor cage, i wanna get him a bigger one coz he likes to jump about, but he goes in the garden a lot so he's only really in there to eat and drink and sleep

OMG that's horrible! Suppose someone wanting to buy a piggie thought that was the best thing to buy! The poor pigs would be miserable!
:tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( :tickedoff: :tickedoff:

well ive gone on to the rspca website registered and wrote an email but tommorrow I'm going to ring them because by email i can take wheeks, its disgusting, i mean when you read the measurements it sounds awful but believe me when you actually see what the hutch looks like i was so disgusted i was shaking!

I saw them a few weeks ago too >:( Really annoying, was first time I'd been to Jollys and loved the fact that they sold good cages (well, for hamsters anyway) and no animal but those hutches were tiny :'(

ive just rang the rspca and an inspector is ringing me back so fingers crossed ill let you know how i get on. :'( If anyone else wants to ring and report id be happy to pass the information on.

Good on you for following up, if not for people like yourself and the rest of the lovely people on here that care for piggies, well ..... i'd hate to think.
Anyways pat on the back from me and good on you for speaking up, it's not easy to do sometimes :-\
Because of you a little furbaby will have been saved :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Do let us know how you get on. These sort of size hutches shouldnt be sold for piggies >:(

I am writing to you to complain about a product you are selling. I recently went to your store on Meadowhall Retail Park and on the outside of your shop you have hutches for sale which frankly disgusted me.
The product code GPH barcode 056201200104

. This hutch is not adequate for A guinea pig never mind that guinea pigs are social animals and should be kept in pairs or small groups. And i am praying your staff are not allowing the public to buy this product for any breed of rabbit. This hutch is total unsuitable and that you selling this product is total unacceptable. As a well respected established company you should be helping to educated the public about correct husbandary of small animals. The selling of this hutch is a disgrace to your name. Not to mention I'm sure it does not correspond with the Animal Welfare Act brought into law this year. Please remove this produc from your shelves I'm sure you do not want to add to the misery of animals that are kept in unsuitable conditions. I will look forward to hearing from you.

Ive just emailed them this hope that adds to the phone calls I'm ringing as well. lol

You go girl!!! ;) O0

If we dont do anything, no-one else is going to! Keep us updated O0

i emailed again to say that on one of the care sheets for guinea pigs it says wheels can be a good excerise! 98) any way i recieved this Dear Ms. Wilcock,

Thank you for your email. The Guinea Pig hutch is indeed a small hutch and certainly not intended for rabbits. It is a product we have had for many years and it has never come under scrutiny previously. I take on board your comments, particularly with regard to guinea pigs being kept in pairs or groups and we are currently investigating whether the hutch can be made bigger so that it is much more suitable. If this can't be done we will no doubt be able to find a more suitable replacement.
I will let you know shortly what we intend to do with the product.

I am not sure where you have seen the reference to wheels for guinea pigs. Our own new care leaflets makes no mention of them. Maybe you could confirm exactly where you saw this so that I can investigate ?

With Regards,
Rob McIntyre

Just like P@H head office seem to be 'ok' but the level of understanding is not getting through to the shops. I hope they do something about it 2ft by 1ft isn't even big enough for a baby guinea! Grrr!
