Pooh! Our Jeremy I have noticed seems to be recently trying to pass a very large ball of poop and drags his bottom along the floor to try and dislodge it. (Nice streaks all over my conservatory floor!). he was squeaking today when trying to poop so I got him on my knee, looked at his bottom and saw it was full of poo. I gently squeezed either side and dislodged a load of it, and wiped his botty with some loo roll to dislodge the rest. I thought I was going to be sick it smelled so bad! Anyway he squawked in outrage then settled down on my knee for a cuddle and his bottom didn't seem so swollen. He will be 4 (we think, not sure as he is a rescue) this spring - is this impaction? Is there anything we can give him to eat that will loosen it, or do we have to help him dislodge it each day? Poor little man!

My Alfonso had this and I wondered if it was impaction- exactly the symptoms you are describing. Convinced myself I'd have to help him everyday but it hasn't happened since, and I've been checking regularly. Think this was about 3 weeks ago, maybe more. I'd given him some sweetcorn for the first time though, the day before, so perhaps it was a dietary thing? Is it your other piggie (Tiger?) who has been constipated?

Oh dear...it does really sound like impaction then. Poor piggie...and poor you! Stinky as it is, you'll need to offer the poo back for him to eat so he can absorb the nutrients (you may already be aware of that though). The things we do for love eh?

It does sound like he was impacted Katie! poor Jeremy :o Check him again every day for a few days. It could be a one off or he may need cleaning 2-3 times a week, some boars every day-just depends really. I used to use virgin olive oil to help loosen it first off ( with poor old Lennie)and a few ear buds but once it starts oozing out, it kind of happens itself. If you do need to do it regularly, offer him the oozy mess to eat as it contains essential B vitamins which they usually reingest themselves. You will get used to the smell :))

Yak! He didn't seem interested in eating it, not surprised though, smelly stuff! I will start checking him daily, can't have me eldest boy and leader of the pack in strife with a sore bottom!
Thanks for your advice!

I agree, it sounds like impaction. I've found I have to clean my boy out once a week; he doesn't get severe impaction as he is neutered, but three plus years with (according to the rescue) very large testicles has definitely weakened the muscles!

Sorry, just nosing through some of the posts.... Is there anything specific that causes impaction? I'm a new owner and would obviously like to avoid anything that might cause my boys' any discomfort (also, wouldnt mind avoiding having to do that myself if possible lol!)
Thanks :{
