So I took on a couple of baby boars as a rescue last year and whilst I knew they were going to be some extra work (zero handling, very little care and sub par nutrition), I just fell in love with them and couldn't leave them living in the old 2ftx1ft aquarium they'd been born in! Their parents were also rescued, just in case anyone was worried! They went to the lady who found them and she gave me the boys because she needed someone used to pigs and didn't have the space for everyone.

Anyway, I've spent the last five months painstakingly making sure they felt safe and knew that human contact wasn't a death threat, they're never going to be cuddly pigs and that's ok because they're just lovely little characters and they'd got very brave about chatting to me from their run and cage. I'd got used to the fact that lap time was never going to be a possibility for us, so I use a cuddle sack to move them from cage to run and back. All was going ok.

THEN TODAY...Praline was so excited about going into the run in the morning, he popcorned..IN MY HANDS. Granted, he was in the cuddle sack, but I mean, that level of trust was AMAZING! Then I went to get Sundae out of the cage...and he stretches out in the cuddle bag, up the length of my arm, yawns, wriggles his little feet and just looks at me with a face that just said "Well come on, serving wench, why are you looking at me when you could be fetching my breakfast?!"

I might have got a bit over emotional. I mean, I'm not saying I shed a tear, but I might have had a sudden allergy attack, is all. That amount of trust from them was NEVER something I expected after their appalling start in life, also, they're Aby/ridgeback cross and let's face it, they're not cuddly pigs by nature usually are they! So, I just needed to celebrate with people who would get it, I guess! Progress has been made, amazingly! :D

Aah what a lovely post - well done you. Sounds like those piggies landed on their feet with you.

Aw, that's fantastic. I had something in my eye whilst reading it! hehe
They're are great little characters.

Aw that made my day :) What a wonderful feeling for you, and of course you know just how happy and relaxed those two have become after such a bad start. That really is so nice :)

Sometimes I wish there was a button that says 'like x 10' :)

Aww how brilliant. Things like that are what makes life worth living.

Were you (internally) jumping for joy? Because that's the best feeling ever, that moment when you just _know_ they trust you. Ah I'm so happy for you and for them!

Thank you everyone, I just had to squee to peole who understood so thank you all for letting me! :)

I absolutely was internally and not at all calmly GIDDY, but kept my game face on because they still get spooked very easily...I saved the glee for after I left the room to get their breakfast and had a little kitchen dance instead! HAHA!

What a lovely post. It's such an amazing feeling when they take that step with you isn't it?!

My Podrick is a very scaredy type pig. I don't think I saw him for the first fortnight! He's never really been comfortable out of the cage. He'll sit perfectly still and let you pet him, but you can tell he's not enjoying it at all.

A few weeks ago we had both boys out on the sofa with us, and after a while he very slowly came out of his blanket, and slowly walked along the cushions. Boyfriend and I nearly died with happiness. It's been such an achievement because when Pod is in his cage he's a completely different pig. Very vocal, very active. Have a look for his "not even guilty" post in the Photos and Videos section. He is a monster

I can understand exactly how you felt. I've got a very timid boy who is terrified of everything. I live in hope that one day we'll have a break through like you. :)
