My 1 year old female pig of three Beatrice is mega quiet. When holding her today, I came to the realization that I don’t think I’ve ever heard her make a noise. Whether it be that sweet little peep noise they make when they’re exploring or a high-pitched squeak for food like the two others do, she is just completely mute. It’s not that she’s a quiet guinea pig by nature, she’s probably one of the most active pigs I’ve ever see, totally hyper all the time and conveys pretty much all have feelings through body language.

I just can’t seem to understand why I’ve never heard her utter a single noise.

I have two brothers who are quite different vocally. They don’t wheek for food, never have. They stand excitedly at the bars instead. Bill will witter if he is putout about anything but Ted is virtually silent. I have heard him once or twice and he has a very weak reedy little voice. Strange as my previous piggies were very vocal?

Donald, I’ve only heard him squeak once and that was when he couldn’t see Speedy so he squeaked. In my limited experience it’s not a uniform thing with piggies making noises. Especially when you’ve got two that are an odd couple like mine!

My piggies are very vocal. When I walk by there cage, "SQUEAK". When the fridge opens "SQUEAK SQUEAK SQUEAK". When I clink there food dishes lily popcorns and luna SQUEAKS SQUEAKS SQUEAKS. When I pet them they purr.
I guess all piggies are different.

Yes, that seems to be the case. Mind both purr which is so sweet. They are very loveable and always want a cuddle x

My other two are completely different too. Pablo will constantly rumble strut and wheek and Mouse makes a noise with every step she makes, all three are so different and that’s why I love them.

That’s Bea ^

I was thinking before, I remember I was brushing her fur after I’d bathed her and I accidentally pulled at a tangle and she must have been uncomfortable, she made this weird throaty, whisper squeak, like someone who had lost their voice. As she was still little I just thought maybe she hadn’t fully developed yet, but a year on and still not a peep out of her. I just can’t put my finger on it.

Bea has got to be one of the cutest piggies I've ever seen!

What a beautiful girl.
I think some piggies are just quieter than others.
For a long time Phoebe didn’t make a sound, she’s still the quietest of my 3.
However with a pig like Jemimah who has a wheek to wake the neighbours why does Phoebe need to to make any noise.

Oh my little Oreo is the same way. It’s how I noticed his lymph node abscess so late, I didn’t know the difference between ‘quiet boar’ and ‘can’t use voice’! Even after his treatment he’s still very quiet. Quiet pigs are the sweetest. ❤️D8C15D7E-802F-453C-A377-1F68004929B1.webp

Your Bea is so pretty!

I can see why he’s called oreo! He’s super handsome

Some pigs are just quiet... I have had some real chatterboxes and some pigs who barely made a sound.

Comet was a noisy sod. Food? Excited wheek. Hay? Excited wheek. Rustled plastic? Excited wheek. Playing? Excited wheek. Vets? Panicked wheek. Some other piggy? Noisy, but excited, rumbling. And if he wasn't doing any of the above he was happily chattering as much as he could.
Blitzen would rumble. A lot. He loved to rumble. I only ever heard him make two other sounds. One was like an "ouch" if you caught a knot when grooming him, and the other was when he made very angry noises at gannets on the TV. Apparently he really didn't like gannets.
Jack was never particularly vocal, but he always had this really urgent wheek if he was being handled and needed to pee.
Rocco just made angry noises at everything.
Jake was loud. Worse than Comet in some respects, at least Comet never tried waking up an entire building because I overslept by 30 seconds :td:

Sprout utilises his wheek at every chance he gets. No food? Shouty wheek. Noises from outside whenever the door is open? Shout at them. Fridge door opening? Excited shouty wheek. Spud, on the other hand, just witters. Doesn’t wheek really, but if he’s out exploring, then the wittering can almost sound like he’s having a conversation with himself.

If she’s just one year old I think she just hasn’t quite learned “oh the door is opening I might get food so

I think it’s just nature one of my friends piggies barely ever makes a sound while my piggies squeal if I move around in bed and try to wake me up

My current herd of 3 are really very quiet. Ralph des the occasional rumble to let the ladies know he’s still got it and is flaunting it. Poppy does the occasional whine if someone goes to evict her from a warm bed. Holly does the very quietest wheek if dinner is really late. But that’s it. At meal times they line up at the bars in silence. Strangely quiet but very very happy trio.
On the other hand Louise and Melody (long term fosters who moved out last autumn) both wheeked at the opening of a door, the rustle of a packet, the sound of chopping in the kitchen. Ear piercing. Lucky foster carer Dale has their wheeking now.
Piggies can be so different.
