How often should i be cleaning my guineapigs & rabbits food dishes out? And what should i be cleaning them with to be on the safe-side?

Thankyou,
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

i do mine with a bit of cage disinfectant from p@h, then wipe it over again with another papertowel. but I'm sure you could do them in your washing up bowl and just make sure there nice and dry. ive done this loads of times.gemx

I wash mine every day and I just use boiled hot water to wash, rinse and then dry them off :)

I clean mine about once a week, or whenever they get dirty. I don't really believe guinea pigs need everything to be very very clean, since they will eat off the ground or eat grass and have no problem. :)) But if they are dirty then I'll use some cage cleaning disinfectant to clean them and a scrubbing brush. :) I guess you could use washing up liquid too, since we use it for ourselves. Milton would be fine too I think.

Just what Ciara said :) but beware the lavender cage cleaning stuff STINKS!

(My mate bought it for me 'so they can sleep really well' hahaha!)

Don't put washing up liquid in your bottles, I have a fit on my OH everytime he does this, I can't get rid of the damn bubbles for weeks. lol I milton all my bottles once a week, and daily give a good shake round with just water before changing. xx

Oh and for water bottles, you can put in some dry rice and a little water, and put on the lid and shake it around to clean them. :) But don't put them in the dishwasher or they melt apparently :))

Even better than rice is coarse rock slat, because it doesn't stick to the inside of the bottle and clog your drains because it just dissolves (so get one with big pieces so it does the job before it dissolves)

I do my bottles in the dishwasher occationally when I'm at my mum's but also rinse them out with hot water that I let stand in them for a while because I worry about residual detergent. I think it depends on the dishwasher though, some may use hotter water?

I clean the bowls with a little pet @ home disinfectant every time I clean out the cage and the water bottles are washed in hot water every day when I'm changing the water. Though the bottles never really have a chance to get dirty cos' my piggies are always breaking them!
