Good morning everyone,

At least it's morning here in Canada :)

I got a heating pad from ebay for my older guinea pig, Chipychanga. It's from K & H and its' hard and it plugs in. The cord is protected for about a foot and a half, I guess that's the part that you put in the cage, and then the rest is normal.

I wonder if anyone has used this before or heard of it? I'm a bit nervous to use it. I do have an oil filled radiator in the shed but it's getting really cold again and not working as well as I need it too, espeically since Chipy is about 5 and a half years old and lives alone.

Thi is what it looks like:

THanks for any input.

I not only have a heat pad but a cooling pad for the summer as well.

I dont bother with the fleece cover it has as it just gets covered with urine. The pad itself doesn't get hot enough to burn them at all and if its hotter than you'd like it to be, you can leave it out for about 10-20 mins to cool a little.

I was thinking of getting another as Coconut likes to sleep on it... means no one else can have a go rolleyes

Mine is a microwave one though :s Not sure how a corded one would be

Hi, thanks for your reply :) I put it in Chipychanga's cage and he immediately went to it and hasn't left it since. I put a light fleece cover on top so it would be more comfy. He is laying on it in total bliss! So I've ordered another one for my other 3 pigs to enjoy. If it works out I will most likely not use my oil filled radiator because it is more expensive. But that is only if the piggies like it and are keeping warm enough. They are in an insulated shed but it still gets cold.

It is thermal regulated so it shouldn't get too hot but I have installed a thermometer on top to watch it and am going out regularly to check on him. He looks so content and warm. :) He's an old boy so I want to have him nice and warm and cozy.

I'll update you all again. Other ppl might be interested in one of these instead of snugglesafes only because mine never held the heat very long.

Great News :)

Keep us posted :(|)

Update :)

Just a little update on these heat pads. My guinea pig loves it and he seems happier having this in his hutch to snuggle up to. So I went ahead and bought another one for my other 3 pigs to share, as it is big enough for 3. They love it as well. :)

So this, I think, is a great option for people who don't want to run a heater in their shed during winter, due to expense, etc. Right now our temps have gone up but when it gets cold again I'll update to let you all know if these heat pads are enough for the piggies to keep them warm.

:)p
