Hello
We are new to guinea pig ownership. We have two males who we have recently bonded together. We would like to get to females who will live together (not with the males). My only concern is that ideally they will all live in the same room (our converted garage) but I am worried that this will make the boys fight. If I put a cage each end of the room would that be enough space or shall I put the girls somewhere else in the house?

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks 😊

If you have somewhere else to put them than that would be best, having them in the same room is something I would avoid. If they have to be in the same room put the boys above the level of the girls so the girls pheromones particularly when in heat can't drift down to the boys.

The boys may well fight. Also you will need a lid on each cage. Male guinea pigs can do quite remarkable things to get to a female in heat. You don't want any injuries, or babies!

I agree with the others.

One of the big no no rules is don’t introduce females into the same room as a bonded boar pair.

There are ways to do it ie having a stacked cage with the girls living at the bottom but you would have to be very careful and it would still be a big risk to the boys bond.

Either way, you should ensure you deal with the boys before dealing with the girls so you don’t transfer sow scents to the boys - this is even if they live in different rooms.
