I really hoped that my next contribution to the forum would be the photos of a happy homecoming, but alas it is a post in the rainbow bridge section. Our rescue guinea pig Mark died this morning. He put up such a fight in the last days of his life, we hoped (and hoped and hoped...) that he'd be OK but it was just his time to go. We know he did his best, he was Hercules!

A few weeks ago we chose Mark out of all the other pigs for his beautiful eyes. When Floris met him, she fell head over heels in love with him too. He was already very ill then, but thankfully the last 2 weeks of his life were spent with her and she cuddled and loved him as much as any guinea could. This morning she was giving his nose a lick, which was to be her final good bye.

Rest in peace kind little chap, Flo will miss you but tiny Pippi will look after you now. She will be so happy to see you and I'm sure the two of you are already having a good chin wag about Flo over some dandies.

To our gentle chap, Mark

I am so sorry for you and Floris - Mark was so gorgeous and seemed to really click with Floris!

Having lost a guinea pig to bladder stones myself, I was keeping my fingers firmly crossed for Mark and a bright future!

RIP Mark - a wonderful gentleman

I'm so sorry. I've been watching his and flo's story progress. I'm so glad he found comfort with her at the end. x

mark is a cutie run free at the bridge & popcorn like crazy you sre going to be missed loads 8...8...

I'm very sorry to hear about Mark. It sounds as though he had a wonderful albeit short, life with you. I'm sure there will be plenty of ladies at Rainbow Bridge for Mark to have fun with. Run free little one..

Thanks everyone, it's been a really tough day, mostly because we feel so sorry for Flo who's been such an incredible sport. She really was a different girl with Mark. Quite contrary to her relationship with her sister!

Only just has Mark left us and we have had to make the difficult decision to go ahead and try to pair Flo up with another boar. Muffin (definitely feeling a name change) is the new kid on the block. I reckon he'll be bringing a lot of energy with him, being that he's a month shy of 2 years and she is 4. I hope she won't be offended by his immaturity, but most of all I hope we're not forcing an introduction to a new guy too soon. Perhaps I am humanising it too much, I am sure their concept of time and the relationship they have with their furry friends is quite different to mine.

I would wait for a few days until Floris is coming out of deep mourning.

Having accepted Mark, she should accept another boar. Age is not so much a problem - my Llewelyn was about 12 months old when 3 1/2 year old Dizzy fell for his charms. He still has a very - no it's not exactly a soft spot - for mature ladies...

I'm so very sorry for your loss. Mark was a special piggie, very handsome. Big hugs to you.

Rest well, dear Mark. xx

Oh i'm so sorry that poor little Mark lost his battle, i think you said it beautifully what a Hercules 8...8...8...
RIP Mark run free at the bridge, now reunited with Pippi popcorning together and running thru the lush green fields, you'll be very sadly missed by your friend Flo and mummy, but NEVER forgotten xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
