I just thought that I should mention that my local pet shop (in Wolves) has had a 2 year old guinea pig given to them as the owner can no longer look after him! They are selling him with a cage for £25.
Strangely I was driving down the today and saw a couple with a little girl walking down the road. I pulled over as I am obsessed with indoor cages and I questioned them about the cage. They admitted that they had bought a male guinea pig and cage in town for their little girl but they were handing it into the pet shop as she was scared of it! The Dad mentioned that he didn't know how he would be with children so it sounds doubtful that he has been handled!
The man in pet shop seems caring and had put the first piggie into a larger cage. When he was talking to me he seemed genuinely sad about it! He does not stock guinea pigs I haven't been in since the 2nd was dropped off today but do you think I should keep an eye on them and mention RSPCA Walsall to him incase he struggles to rehome them!
I don't know if the pet shop owner had given them any money for them or just agreed to try and re-home them!
As I am new to Guinea Pigs I am not yet confident enough to take them on as we now have two of our own! I know lots of you have mentioned how so many Guinea Pigs are abandoned but I was still shocked as to me pets really are for life!

Aw, poor piggies being so unwanted. I wish parents would stop buying them as pets until they know all the facts and intend to keep them for life.

You could speak to the pet shop man to find out what he'll do if he never sells them, and then mention organisations that could perhaps help him if he doesn't want to keep them. I assume that he knows how to care for the guinea pigs that he's taking in to sell on again.

We have a local pet shop who don't buy in animals, but will take in wanted animals and sell them on......like baby guinea pigs and rabbits!

Aww poor guinea pig. :( At least the little girl and her parents did the right thing in taking the piggy back. :) Yes do mention the RSPCA to him because if the guinea pig goes there, it is sure to get a fantastic home. Good Luck. :(|)
