Cannot beleive it! My 15yr old dropped our little Beanie today and didn’t tell me. About 2pm today. I went shopping, came home and did veggies about 5 as norm and he seemed okay. I went in to change bed and water later and he was in his hidey - which is unusual. I then discovered that he was holding up
one of his back legs and she then told me. I am really upset she didn’t tell me earlier. He is 5mths old. I’ve given metacam and he is eating. Rang vets and got a 8.30am app tomorrow. Any advice please? Very worried about prognosis - he’s such a happy piggy who we have recently bonded with our 2yr old cinnamon ...such a dream bonding. New large c&c and things were going so well. :(

Wait to see the vet. Hopefully it’s just a sprain. The metacam should also help.

I once got home to find one of our boys had injured his back leg. I got him booked into the vet for a couple of days later, and he was pretty much ok by then! 🙄

Hopefully he will be fine.

Thank you Siikibam. Let’s hope he’s okay. He’s such a jumping bean but he’s clearly not okay right now. 😐 I’ll keep you posted.

Thanks Betsy - cannot believe it. The vet thinks it’s broken so he’s in today for an X-ray. Feel wretched - haven’t slept and fear the outcome may not be good. 😢 He is such a happy boy. Please send positive vibes.

Healing vibes being sent for the poor little fella. Hope he is ok. x

Healing vibes for little Beanie!

As he survived the initial fall, I'd think it more likely than not that he will recover fine. Barring bad reaction to anaesthetic, a broken leg should heal up, and even if it had to be amputated, I had a boar who had to have a back leg amputated and he managed fine on three for the rest of his life. Xx

Thank you Qualcast. I’m not sure how back the fall as I want there BUT just had a call from the vet and Beanzie is recovery from the GA and they vet says she can’t see any obvious breaks. Fingers crossed he makes a good recovery. I don’t know anything about the risks from GA. xx

Sorry, that’s a bad message. Tired and distressed. The vet cannot see any obvious breaks. What do I need to be aware of in terms of a bad reaction to anaesthetic? Thanks everyone. Back at the vets at 3.30pm. I’ll let you know how Beanie is. 💕xx

Our boar reacts badly. He sleeps loads and doesn't take enough fluid. So a good sign of improvement is eating, drinking, toileting and wanting to explore. Hope all goes ok at 3.30

Fingers crossed for your little man, hope he’s ok, he’s such a sweetheart x
Thanks Bil and Ted. He is adorable. The vet says no obvious sign of a break so fingers crossed. Will make sure we keep a close eye on him for as long as it takes. And monitor food and water intake initially. xx

One of mine has a similar injury. Vet said just bruising, & to keep her quiet, monitor elimination/input, etc., which I did all last week. she's moving around much better now, although still not really using the leg (limping).

Hi Laureen. Sorry to hear that your piggie is limping too. We have been told confine to reduce mobility for at least 4 weeks. I’ve seen the X-ray rays which show that thee are no breaks but ligament damage is another matter. Are you using metacam for the pain?

So Beanie now in confined space, eating and seems okay following anaesthetic. I think it will be a few weeks before we see an improvement. No broken bones thank goodness. Fingers crossed for a good recovery.

label on injection says buprennorphine. But she acts like it doesn't hurt her at all, today. She's been acting her normal self. Last week, she was very still, voluntarily. no breaks - i saw the xray. swelling & discoloration greatly reduced, as well. vet didn't give me a time limit for restriction, but they called today & I told them how she was doing.

Please keep me updated. We have an appointment in 3 weeks unless we have concerns. When do you go back to see the vets? Wishing your piggy well.

Merab’s slave - thank you. I miss Beanie’s bonkers pop-corning already! Will update soon.

Thanks Claire, he seems okay but not progress with the leg yet although it is positions much lower down than 2 days ago. The vet says 4 weeks confinement so we will stick with that. Plus the vet says that metacam is only licensed for 3 days post op but we can continue with daily use but I wonder for how long and whether we should add in some probiotic? x

Metacam can be used for a lot longer than 3 days. I have a girl at the moment who has been on and off it for the last 3.5 years! You don't have to give probiotic with metacam x

I've had a piggy on metacam for longer than 3 days for pain relief.
Hope you see some improvement soon.
Sending healing vibes and hugs. He looks like such acute piggy.xx

Aw.. thanks Rymer. It’s only day 3 so we will have to be patient. The vet Katie said she would refer the X-ray to Colin who is piggy savvy and an orthopaedic wiz and if there was anything to raise she would ring me and no call received! My only other question .... sorry folks .. I was going to search the site. We have metacam 0.5mg and wonder if we should using 1.5mg? Beanie is getting 0.16 every 24hrs. On vets orders...
