Leonard - several pink wees this evening

As often seems to happen with piggies, things have changed - vet decided he was not strong enough to have the op today so he is home again (as Debbie had guessed). Septrin and metacam over the weekend and lots of tempting bits of food to try and build him up and then try for op on Tuesday. He has not actually dropped weight since last weekend which is something.
Thanks for vibes, I have passed them on to him, he is such a gentle piggy. x

And gentle ((((huggs )))) for you, lots of us on here can relate to what your feeling :... :{ 8... @) It's a very worrying time, made worse by the fact there is nothing for you to do but wait. You can do something though, get yourself organized, because the next few days could be tough and you'll want to be with your little man, so while you wait, you could get together everything you'll need for him when he gets home, heat pad, blanket, towel, syringe, food, etc. and also maybe make a stew or curry or something that will heat up fast and easy, or if that's not your thing, then get all your favourite take away menus and put them beside the phone, or stock up on your favourite ready meals, anything that will make things easier for you and free up some of your time to spend with Leonard when he needs you. And by the way all this being busy, takes the edge off the worry a little and makes you feel like your doing something useful ")

Huge vibes for little Leonard, I hope he gains in strenght over the weekend ready for his op next week - such a stressful time for you. If you have access to grass try cutting him a little, I usually find that tempts most piggies. Hugs from all of us xx

Huge huge positive vibes have been sent your way from me and Georgia who has very fond memories of shy Leonard.
:(

Ring me anytime x

Hi MandF and thank you - that is very sensible advice - I have some of those things together but could do with making sure everything is prepared. I know you have been having a real rollercoaster with Maisie and URIs - hope she starts to mend soon. x

Yes he loves grass so will look for some in the garden. How did you get on with eddie at the vets? Did they do an xray on him too? Wow, poorly pigs are a worry aren't they? Thanks for the support.

I'm so sorry that Leonard is poorly and I am keeping my fingers crossed that he will get better soon. I have had an ill pig myself this week and it is horrendous, time just seemed to slow down. Best wishes to you and Leonard x

Leonard is still reluctant to move around much but is doing ok. Here is a little pic of him having his recovery food. He prefers a baby spoon to a syringe at the moment for food. He is taking his meds pretty well.

Aww Leonard, you know I am willing you to pull through this.
The photo captures his quiet sweet nature so much. Get well Leonard!
Hugs Laura.

Not looking v good at the minute. He sounds gurgly in his tummy and the number of poohs is going down. Just had a few mls of critical care and some cucumber and bits of lettuce so he is still eating but just not enough. He is back on his snuggle safe now, crikey piggies are heartbreaking. Will ask vet about gut stimulant

I'm feeling pretty much the same malletheadmalletheadmallethead

It's 5.20am I'm up feeding a Maisie who although she is very poorly is still able to fight me and the syringe, and things are not looking good :( we are just holding out for the vet at 9am :...

Huge Healing vibes to your little man, and all of those out there holding night time vigals x>>

I know that feeling so well, when you are counting down the hours and minutes until the vet opens. I am syringe feeding Jerry right now, although he's picked up a little since starting on Zithromax.

I really hope Maisie gets on ok at vets and is soon starting to feel a little better.

Definitely try and get some gut stimulants from the vet today. How much food are you getting into him? I know you say he prefers to take it from the spoon, and that's fine if hes taking plenty, but maybe it's worth syringing him too. Will he eat the syringe food if you put it on a plate in the cage? These little guys really know how to put us through it. I won't be on forum much today, but text if you want a chat. x

Owww, there are lots of poorly piggies at the moment 8...

Stay strong Gplearner and MandFpiggies. I hope your guineas pull through this and get well again soon x

A better 24 hours for Leonard. Vet did not want to do gut stimulants yesterday before I had tried upping fluids and cc. Which I did and it has helped with more, better poohs and more wees I think. That has led to bit more eating by himself too. He just loves his heat pad at night.
So off to vet in the morning for his op. Good luck little lovely chap, we need you to fight tomorrow.

Good Luck little man.

Ps - he could really benefit from Emeprid after his operation, P got them straight after his op and I had to increase them when he went into gut stasis.

x

Keeping your little boy in my thoughts today. Hope it goes well. Big hugs x x

Please fight through this Leonard, Barney Bumbles will be waiting for you, along with your lovely family.
Thinking of you all today.
x

Thank you for thinking of Leonard. He is probably in the op now. He had a fairly normal breakfast with the other piggies which is something.
Vet will give gut stimulants today - I think he was just trying to hang fire until today. He was telling me that there is a risk that the stones can reform on the sutures (like you make crystals on a string in school chemistry) so is using very fine, dissolving sutures. That may be too much information for some but I think we need to know more about stones - they cause such problems. Vet also said that some of latest thinking is that a UTI is a precursor to stones?

They will take blood whilst he is under to check liver and kidney function etc too. Will let you know if he makes it through today. x

Leonard has woken up from the op but is extremely low. The op was more complex than predicted - the stones were in the ureter not the bladder. The larger stone was removed in bits but the smaller stone only partially removed, too diff position to reach. The bladder and ureter walls have taken a battering. He was under GA for much longer than had been hoped.

Waiting to hear again from vet with update and blood results but vet was very low. So hard.

Thanks for all the kind thoughts, poor little lad needs them.x

oh sweets...we have everything crossed your baby comes through this ok xxxxx

sending you a big old hug ((((((((((( ))))))))))))
