What are you doing with your piggy's hair/fur to keep them cool in this hot weather.
I am currently debating a full hair cut, a full hair cut with thinning the hair left, or just thinning the hair.

Part of my dilema is that I cannot control the temperature in my flat very well, which faces west even with the windows open and the blinds closed and currently (19:22) it is 26 degrees, and it floats between 24 and 28, even with a fan to circulate the air 24/7.

i have short hair ones but i know alot of the gang are trimming theres . the hair will soon grow back and little piggie will thank you for trimming them :(|):(|)

I have trimmed Honey's (my coronet) hair quite a bit but not massively short and she seems to be coping well she does love a good trim and pop corns away once i have trimmed her up. x)

I cut Pola's hair....she doesn't like it but its for her benefit.

I cut as much as she would let me, which with all of the hair she had before I got quite a bit, but she still has quite a bit left, might give it another go in a few days!

Call me mean but I haven't cut mine, mainly because they've been coping ok with the heat. Of course I would if they were struggling. However Goldmoon's locks are stunning and it would be such a shame to cut them! rolleyes

I have given all my LH guineas severe haircuts. I felt so bad for them in the heat :( They are much happier even though I definately wouldn't make hairdresser of the year!

Frozen water bottles wrapped in pillowcases, cool damp towels over their cages and fans going for mine indoors really help too :)

The Pillowcases idea is Fab Fi! Mine have been on Ice block swhat you use for cooling picnics! :(|) Wrapped in towels of course! I did do some ice cubes but I ate them! :-( LMAO

Guinea Pigs on ice! it makes me giggle! I need help! mallethead

Well when it has cooled tonight I am going to give them a pamper.... Thorough brushing of hair, cut, and nails done for cinder and spark. The other two have had them done already.
Oh and a photoshoot after my driving lesson

thanks for the tips guys,i will be referring to this thread when i pick up Blade in the near future he is a coronet/texel/possibly sheltie mix so I'm sure ill be in for a treat in summer xxxxx

I'm quite lucky to have a lovely shady part in the garden, so if it's a really hot the runs go there, I only have 1 long coat, only just got him really, and was doing some research when I got him, and came across a really good idea for keeping them cool and it seems to of worked so far, I put 2 bricks with a slate tile on top to make a low platform. So they can either use it as something to run and popcorn round, which mine do, or they lay on top of the tile where it's cooler, they could lay under it as there's plenty of room but they don't seem to want to.

It was also mentioned that just a flat tile would be cooler for them to lay on if you haven't the room for bricks too.

For inside piggies, maybe a fan might help to cool the air down a bit and the freeze packs, for my black bunny he gets a frozen 2 litre lemonade bottle wrapped in a towel if he's confined to barracks.

mine have cooling tiles, but my longest haired piggie doesn't really like using them! i thin her hair out as much as possible and put them in runs with white towels drapped over, especially before 9am. dont put them in their runs between 11am and 3pm as this is the hottest part of the day
