Hi all,
The boys have got static lice again :(
We've got the ivermectin ordered and the lice 'n' easy at the ready to hopefully get rid of the problem. However, I'm unfortunately noticing a trend that they pick it up whenever in contact with the farm hay used at their holiday boarding. The last time they had it was when we bought a bag from them, and they've just got back from their holidays and have them again! Could be coincidence, but I'm suspecting it's definitely the hay there.
Are there any good preventative treatments we can use for next time? I'm thinking along the lines of the "spot-on" treatment used on cats and dogs that's supposed to prevent flea infestations. Is there anything similar for piggies that actually works? What have you found is most effective in preventing parasites?
Any suggestions would be very welcome :)

Sadly apart from not using that hay, there’s nothing that will prevent it. Please don’t use cheap spot on treatments from pet shops. They’re not strong enough and could harm your piggies

Stay away from infested hay.

The low-dosed 'preventative' shop products are not effective. It is much better and effective to hit them hard afterwards when they really have an infection.

Bring your own hay and ask that your boarder to use that for your guinea pigs as you have repeatedly had hay mite issues after feeding their farm hay.
