Hi,

My piggies have got a rather bad lice problem which Vet has given me Xenex ultra spot on to give every 2 weeks x3. 12 drops on back of neck. Done this & a few days later they seem totally lethargic, they're still eating food infront of them although nowhere near as much as they would usually, so critical care is coming out shortly.

Just wondered if this was normal &/or if it needs to be washed off?

Any other cunning plans greatfully received.

Try gorgeous guineas lice and easy shampoo works wonders!

sure i bought some of that the other year just got to dig it out now then.

Which would leave a question of not doing the next 2 treaments, presumably as long as I've done something to get rid of the lice it doesn't matter?

I would do atleast two treatments with the shampoo seeing as you do not think what you have done so far is effective!

Xenex is absorbed through the skin so it would now be impossible to wash it off the skin.

is it normal to affect pigs thou? Suppose it doesn't suprise me if it's a poison for the lice being given via the pigs.

The active ingredient in Xenex is Permethrin, I have never used it on mine.

Just wanted to mention that I do use Ivermectin on my pigs and have never had any problems or sideffects with it. It kills lice and mites. Your vet can prescribe it and it is also available at pah etc.

Cheers

Yes I know a lot of people who have used this treatment on guineas and had awful reactions. It is an insecticide so really not good for guineas. So I would advise not using it. I am sure there is something on guinea lynx about this.

Use the gorgeous guineas shampoo or XENO 450 which contains ivomec is ok.

Hope that helps

I agree about using Xeno 450 - is is very good.
Just wanted to add, if you have had the GG shampoo a while - best to check the best before date, just to be on the safe side xx
