Lichen on apple tree branches?

I read that lichen on apple tree branches was not good for piggies. What if I scrape it all off which is easy to do. Are the branches ok for piggies once the lichen has been removed? My piggies just love chewing on the apple tree branches.

I always give mine a quick clean before the beasties have them and scrape off all the lichen, never had an issue!
