I had been hoping to post this under happier circumstances. When i last went to Coseley GPR i came back with a baby sow (as well as Pongo), hoping that in the near future i would be able to bond her with Dora and Belle. As Dora was still very poorly and has since passed over the rainbow bridge this little one has found a friend in Belle. I most be truthful and say that she probably hasn't had the attention she deserves over the past week as all my time has been taken up caring for Dora and for some reason i just couldn't give her a name (somewhere in my head i think i felt like i was replacing Dora and it didn't seem right). @Bill & Ted said that she looks like a Lily so we have decided that this will be her name.

Lily is now 7 weeks old and has settled in surprisingly well. She is still learning about veggies but loves to bury herself in a pile of hay and has enjoyed a little freshly cut grass. I am working in the piggy room and see that she is already more confident about being out and about in the cage when i am here, We will now spend some time getting to know our new arrival. Hopefully she will help ease some of the sadness that has almost overwhelmed us this year. It really is hard not to smile at a baby piggy.

I had forgotten how tiny pups are (at 6 weeks she weighed 284g) and how fast. Getting a photo was almost impossible.

Hello gorgeous little Lilly :wub: I think your white stripe is just like the petals on a lilly. I know you are going to bring your slaves Yvonne and Allan bucket loads of love and happiness and they need it right now.
So glad Belle has a little friend too x
 
Welcome Lily! What a cute little girl and just what Belle needs...

Instead of seeing Lily as a replacement, try to see her as the company that Dora would have wanted Belle to have and rather as a legacy than a replacement.

It is always a lot tougher when you are cutting the pre-emptive companionship issue just a bit too fine because it does feel somewhat cold-hearted, even though it is the kindest thing you can do for a surviving companion in order to bolster and stabilise their own loss experience. Been there myself. Grieving - which you have already been doing for Dora when Lily arrived - can do funny things when your emotions and the different needs you have to address are conflicting.

However, Lily will find her very own nesting place in your heart in due time. Don't put yourself under too much pressure right now and allow things to happen naturally and in their own pace. It will come all right for everypig and for you. ;)

Awww, she's lovely! What a precious little girl!

I know it's hard to deal with grieving a lost pig and getting to know a new one. I was there myself recently. We never replace the ones we've lost... I truly believe that it's a tribute to the pigs we've lost to take on a new animal. We loved them so much, despite the pain of losing them, that we wanted to do it over again. Lily is her own little soul and in time, you'll have a separate place in your heart for her too that takes nothing away from the love you have for Dora. Our hearts grow big enough for all of them with time!
 
Oh little Lily is a real cutie! I can just imagine how fast and chatty she is. I’m so pleased that she’s found her forever home with you and that her arrival has come in time to help Belle recover from the loss of losing her companion. We never replace one pig with another. Our hearts have an infinite capacity for love. And our piggies each hold a very special place in our hearts. Lily will find her way into yours when you’re ready. Just be kind to yourself x

I really was expecting Dora to get better and we would have two trios. I guess some things are just not meant to be. Lily is already standing up to a Belle and doesn't take any nonsense.😄
