Limping after unsuccessful nail clipping

My concern is following an unsuccessful nail clipping. I attempted to clip one of my pig's, Alice's, nails earlier today. It's my first time trying to clip their nails, and I could tell she really needed it done. I clipped one of the nails too short, and didn't have the right materials to stop the bleeding. I put her back in the cage (pedicure only half complete) because I didn't want to stress her out anymore than I already did. When I came back later that day with styptic powder, I could see Alice was limping, keeping off her clipped paw. I put her injured paw in the powder even though the bleeding was stopped by then.

Now I'm concerned because she is still limping, and hiding a lot. She is a new piggie in my care, and I feel like I've lost the trust that I worked so hard to gain. Any advise both for the limping and the bonding?
 
I wouldn't worry too much unless you accidentally cut some skin. Even then it wouldn't too big of a deal. Cutting the quick/kwik hurts a bit, but won't cause any problems. Not sure about the bonding, but I'm sure you'll regain her trust very quickly! They'll usually forgive and forget once they see you have some veggies!

You will be forgiven again in a couple of days once she feels better again.

If you feel insecure, see whether you can have your piggy's nails cut by a vet nurse with piggy experience at your local vet clinic. Many offer this service for a small charge if you ask.

Trust me, we have all been there with nail clipping! Some piggies are fine with it, some scream the house down! You do feel bad if you cut it make them bleed - did it once - but they soon forgive and forget! It's a 2 person job in our house!

Yes! I was gonna ask my roommate to help me next time I attempt!
 
Been there! One of mine is an absolute for kicking out when I'm doing her nails and I've cut too short a handful of times now! I wonder if she's limping because the foot feels different with short nails if they were left to get long? Rather than it being pain related.

Hmm that's an interesting idea! I hope so. She seems to be a little better this morning. She's still walking awkwardly, but it's not as obvious.
 
like humans of we cut a nail too short it hurts and for few days after.
Bleeding course needs to be stopped asap. You will be forgiven especially if treats are given which I do when I cut them
Yes I've cut piggie and she bled and oh my was i guilty. :doh:
